New preprint!
"Identifying statistical indicators of temporal asymmetry using a data-driven approach"
arxiv.org/abs/2511.15991
_Can we statistically distinguish the forward- versus reverse-time dynamics of a system from a finite time series?_ 👇

What kinds of dynamical structures have scientists developed models for?
Introducing the 1000×1000 collection: 1000 simulated time series × 1000 samples from 133 dynamical processes, from noise and chaos to hearts, brains and climate.
Have a play? 🐛

Interested in the principles shaping connectome architecture?
Check out our latest in @CellCellPress led by @_francisnormand w/ @jchrispang, @TrangCao2016,
J Cruddas, @m_gajwani, @Arshiya_San, @DrAlexHolmes, @StuartJOldham, & P Robinson.
We derive a simple model using geometric eigenmodes that can capture cortical connectome topology and topography of mouse, marmoset, macaque, chimp, and human connectomes, as mapped using diffusion MRI and tract-tracing.

What mechanisms shape the intricate wiring of the cortex (i.e., its connectome)?

Here's a mitochondrial "social network" (tracking encounters) emerging over time from their collective dynamics in a plant cell. This picture helps us understand their capacity to share and exchange biomolecules 🔬🌱🫂

The breath of comparison (of both methods and processes) also allowed us to demonstrate that all tested indices of irreversibility had weaknesses: i.e., we could always find an irreversibile process on which any given irreverisbility index will fail to detect irreversibility.
If you're interested in the statistics of time-irreversibility and how they can be used to capture novel, interpretable properties from real-world time series, take a look: arxiv.org/abs/2511.15991
