People in Belgrade have celebrated after Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat in snap parliamentary elections. Vučić said ‘it was clear his side had lost to the student-led protest movement, in a result that could mark a major shift in the country’s political landscape’.

Have you watched Welcome to Gaza in Cairo yet? Five Gazan schoolgirls wrote these plays before the war. Now living in Egypt, they perform their own stories on stage. Directed by Raeda Ghazaleh, with English subtitles. Watch: youtu.be/R242gEJTZqY

The world cannot ignore what is happening in Sudan. One year on from the mass atrocities in El Fasher, the UK is sanctioning those linked to these and other atrocities, and strengthening support for survivors and communities at risk of famine.

Now 47 hours, and counting 😮 A&E longest waiting time at Derriford Hospital #Plymouth Shorter, of course, for the most urgent cases 🤔
Never have I seen an A&E Waiting Time as high as this. 1812 minutes 😔 Urgent care waiting times | University Hospitals #Plymouth NHS Trust share.google/w35R5hKeQ3YQdjs…

Schools and colleges are running on empty, but 20 is the magic number to #SaveEducation. 1. Class sizes of 20 We have a declining pupil roll, yet some of the largest class sizes in Europe, with 1 million children taught in classes of 31 or more. Class sizes of 20 is the European average. Smaller classes would equal greater inclusion. 2. 20% PPA We have an epidemic of teachers, particularly mothers , dropping to 0.8 so they can do their planning and preparation on their day off and still have some of their weekend. Going part-time to work full-time. 20% PPA would end this inequality. 3. 20% funding uplift for funding restoration. To get education funding back to the OECD average (5% of GDP), comparable with other developed countries, would require a 20% uplift. Keeping the £3.3bn saving from the Teachers’ Pension Scheme in education, instead of the treasury clawing it back, would take us two-thirds of the way there. 4. 20% pay rise for pay restoration Although pay has begun to rise relative to average earnings from its low point in 2022, we are still a long way from restoring pay to 2010 levels. Getting pay back to that level would require a 20% rise.

“I would like to see that happen in my lifetime” Prime Minister Andy Burnham tells Good Morning Britain he believes Brexit has weakened the UK economy and its control over immigration. But he insists the British public must have the final say, ruling out a move to rejoin the EU during this Parliament.

What a relief! Lula’s unexpected victory gives hope for the Amazon. He has dramatically cut felling, while Bolsonaro’s plans would doubtless have taken it past its tipping point, ensuring total eventual destruction with huge global consequences. euronews.com/2026/10/19/amaz…

What an extraordinary result in Serbia, as student led movement beats authoritarian Vučić govt with record turnout. A victory for democracy and free speech - a free media in Belgrade will be quite something. And not something Putin will appreciate. bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c8x23x…

12:30pm on Day 1 of my half-term break and I've been sheltering indoors (from #StormAusten outside). Body is Stable, Balanced and Ready 🙏 and I'm well behind today's @visible_health pacesetter, largely because my Resting Heartrate is so very low 😮

Its now Monday morning and you can now expect to wait until Wednesday to be seen (43 hours +) Here’s hoping anyone in Derriford (Plymouth) accident and emergency department is experiencing neither an accident or an emergency.

Surely not? Current longest waiting time in Plymouth's Derriford Hospital A&E is 38 hours (at 2am) Of course, the most urgent cases will be seen first, but A&E can be a scary place to end up, at the best of times 😔

Congratulations to Lula on his re-election as President of Brazil! 🇧🇷 Against all odds, @LulaOficial has shown that socialism can triumph over the barbarism of Bolsonaro and the global far right. O povo unido jamais será vencido! ✊🏽❤️
