The final version of my masters thesis "An Exploration of Duo Singing in Virtual Reality and Videoconferencing" is now available at hdl.handle.net/11343/326090 😀. It compared the experience of singing in @BigscreenVR with @Zoom across ten participants between 2020-2021.
Happy to announce that after spending the last few years involved in music therapy and VR @MelbNSI, I’ve enrolled in a Master of Music Psychology and Performance Science course @vca_mcm. I’ll be looking specifically at the intersection of networked music performance and VR.

Expect to see traditional web conference platforms such as @Skype and @zoom_us enter the VR sphere over the next few years 2/2

Probably didn’t think ‘next few years’ would mean over seven years and don’t remember the last time I used Skype

Over twenty years before Apple's VisionPro, we developed one of the first systems that allow people to transition between the real world, AR and VR in a collaborative interface. See the video here: youtube.com/watch?v=GnTHruy1… @Apple #visionpro #augmentedreality 1/10

One of the biggest impacts of 3D data capture and VR will be the ability to replay family events and memories while virtually in the scene

Great to be able to help bring this episode of 'After Hours' to life, filmed in the brand-new Union Theatre. The series was a great way to showcase local Melbourne music talent on campus while giving our video team a fun and internally produced project to work on.

Hey @benz145, is it still the case that after the rebranding of Oculus Quest HMD's to Meta Quest devices, the store is still officially known and referred to as the Oculus Quest store?
So Oculus actually has four separate content stores now under the same 'Oculus Home' banner. An Oculus Rift / Rift S store, an Oculus Quest store, an Oculus Go store, and a Gear VR store (the latter two largely overlap, but not perfectly AFAIK). Not exactly a cohesive ecosystem.

The study found that participants preferred singing in VR, however limitations in avatar facial expression challenged musical synchronisation. Results help our understanding of self-awareness on inhibition and the affordances of virtual spaces in networked music performance.

Great to be able to meet all the other fellow CAIDE-ers in this years Summer Academy. Lots of discussion around the obvious AI hot topics but also to meet fellow music psych lab @XantheLoweBrown in person. All of our lab meetups were held online since 2020 so good to be F2F.

This virtual recording control room looks amazing. I've long imagined a VR app like this so glad to see someone actually build it :) Great learning tool as well. Definitely signing up for the beta version.

I am almost positive a similar resource exists (really feeling the tip-of-my-tongue sensation), but I couldn't find it so I felt compelled to publish this repo of VR research resources: github.com/JashoBell/vr-expe…

This study finds users preferred videoconferencing over VR for online group meetings, mainly due to the lack of emotions shown in the face while in the VR context. As the fidelity of expression in VR HMD's improves over time, it will be interesting to see how this changes

I found users reported similar results about face expressions in my own Masters research work (currently under examination) but in a musical performance setting, VR was preferred over videoconferencing. So as with a lot of things, context is important in these types of studies.

Pleased to be able to present our latest episode of After Hours, filmed in the epic @msdsocial building. Lots of challenges filming live music in non-traditional performance venues but has been a great project to work on.

Great to see that Edward Packard (original author of the Choose Your Own Adventure Series) is still going strong at 91. The original series was such an huge inspiration to me growing up and I would obsessively read them as much as possible edwardpackard.com

Which were enjoyed alongside playing adventure games on the Apple IIe such as Transylvania, The Coveted Mirror and The Alpine Encounter. For me, narrative VR experiences like The Invisible Hours are the natural progression from that style.
