BREAKING: The “few bad apples” line pushed by the UN has just been obliterated. The Wall Street Journal front page is reporting that an estimated 1,200 Unrwa employees in Gaza are actual “operatives” of Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and about half have close relatives who belong to the Islamist terrorist organizations, according to Israeli intelligence estimates shared with the U.S. government. The report said 23% of Unrwa’s male employees—the agency has a total staff of 12,000 in Gaza—took active part in the Hamas organization’s military or political framework, a higher percentage than the average of 15% for adult males in Gaza. The information in the Israeli intelligence reports is based on sensitive signals intelligence as well as cellphone tracking data, interrogations of captured Hamas gunmen and documents recovered from dead terrorists. Nearly half of all Unrwa employees—an estimated 49%—also had close relatives with official ties to Hamas and other terrorist groups. The Oct. 7 intelligence reports seen by the Wall Street Journal identified an Unrwa Arabic teacher who was also a Hamas terrorist commander and took part in a terrorist attack on Kibbutz Be’eri, where 97 people were murdered, and about 26 people were kidnapped and taken as hostages to Gaza. Another Unrwa employee, described in the dossier as an Unrwa social worker, played a role in absconding with the body of a dead Israeli soldier, which was taken to Gaza, the reports said. He also coordinated trucks and munitions distributions for Hamas before being killed. 📍Full story by @cjkeller8 & @davidluhnow @WSJ: wsj.com/world/middle-east/at…

My confidence in Harvard leadership’s ability and will to confront anti-semitism and the demonization of Israel continues to decline. Unfortunately, it is becoming ever clearer why Harvard ranks first on anti- semitism, even as it ranks last on upholding free speech. Confronting anti-semitism does not mean punishing offensive speech as some suggest. Free speech is sacrosanct in a university. But effective leadership does involve assuring the appropriateness of speech made by the university and its subunits and it means encouraging speech that counters prejudice and balances debate. The executive board of Harvard’s Center for Middle East Studies, acting for the Center, not in their individual capacities, has endorsed a statement demonizing Israel. cmes.fas.harvard.edu/news/me… There is nothing wrong with anyone in the University taking this position or any other position. That is academic freedom. It should not be possible and would not be possible if race or gender issues were involved, for a center that proudly uses the Harvard name to support research and debate to take a position that so many see as prejudiced. I note Edward Said’s intellectual heir, Rashid Khalidi, who many see as anti-semitic has been invited twice since October 7 to speak at the University. Everyone should be free to speak or invite speakers. I also note with disappointment, but not actually surprise, that to my knowledge Harvard has not had speakers like Dennis Ross or Bret Stephens who take pro-Israel positions. With all the rhetoric about open dialogue and debate, it is remarkable that in Harvard College there is no yet announced dialogue or debate on any Middle East or diversity related issue. Nor am I aware, even after the events of last fall, of any new initiatives directed at education on anti-semitism or the Holocaust. There has been no public discussion of Harvard’s past collaboration with German Nazi controlled universities, Jewish quotas or the more recent discrimination against Israeli students. We have disbanded one task force on anti-semitism without result and announced another in a way that the Biden Administration’s envoy for anti-semitism labeled an “unforced error.” And as January ends, still no constituting or charging of the new task force. My life experience is that task forces on subjects of concern are most often formed as an alternative to moral leadership rather than a way to bring it about. I hope I will be proven wrong. Harvard interim president Alan Garber has a powerful intellect and a strong moral compass. I hope he will not let an excessive desire for comity prevent him from acting with strength and clarity. I cannot think of a worse stretch in Harvard history than the last few months. I have no doubt that all members of the Corporation are deeply devoted to Harvard. As the institution’s ultimate fiduciaries, I hope they will take appropriate accountability and enable a restoration of confidence. The challenges are real but resolvable. Harvard is blessed with an extraordinary collection of students, faculty and staff and abundant resources. The mission of seeking truth and educating leaders has never been more important. This is a moment for wisdom and boldness.

In March, 2023, the Islamic Fatwa Council issued a FATWA directly BLAMING #HamasISIS for the oppression of Palestinians in #Gaza and calling on the terrorist group to make peace with #Israel. The first of its kind religious edict stated that Hamas is a TERRORIST org which VIOLATES the tenets of Islam and that Muslims SHOULD NOT “pray for, support, finance or fight on behalf of Hamas.” The ruling enumerated 11 correlations between Hamas and ISIS, including the use of suicide bombers, missile attacks against civilians; torture or inhuman treatment by Hamas personnel; unjust imprisonment; use of child soldiers, and genocidal aspirations, in the case of Hamas annihilating the Jews. #FreeGazaFromHamas #IStandWithIsrael #BelieveIsraeliWomen #HamasRapists #BringThemHomeNow #NeverAgainIsNow

HOW DARE YOU @GretaThunberg. How DARE you call for ethnically cleansing the Jewish people from our ancestral land?? You know nothing. No history, no reality, no truth. So I have this to say to you. Israel is not a colonialist state – it’s a refugee state which was literally decolonized from Britain. The majority of Israeli Jews are people of color, whose families were ethnically cleansed from other parts of the Middle East. Throughout history, the only indigenous sovereign entities to exist in the land have been Jewish states. Jews originate from the land, derive our religion and our practices from it and despite centuries of exile and displacement have always kept an unbroken presence there. And you Greta Thunberg, are chanting “crush Zionism” on the streets of Sweden. Zionism is the Jewish people exercising our right to self-determination in some parts of our only historic, ancestral and indigenous homeland. Hamas showed us on October 7 what “crushing Zionism” looks like and you want to cheer that on Greta? Greta Thunberg, if I can borrow your famous phrase, “how dare you!” But this is how antisemitism works – Find what is most evil to you, and blame it on the Jews, or today - on the Jewish state. I can understand that younger generations in western societies feel guilty about the evils of colonialism. But Israel’s history is not your history, and whatever guilt you feel, supporting the massacre of Jews in their ancestral land will not wash away the sins of your fathers. When your ancestors were colonizing the world, my ancestors were being slaughtered by Cossacks. We were dreaming – next year in Jerusalem – of building a life raft in our homeland. We fled genocidal violence in Europe. We were ethnically cleansed from Arab countries all over the Middle East. And we built a liberal, democratic Jewish state. That is not a colonial enterprise. Zionism is not a colonial enterprise – Zionism is the decolonization movement of the Jewish people. And to anyone who cannot accept our presence or who slanders Israel as something it is not, we are here to say: “how dare you.”

We just took the floor at the United Nations Human Rights Council to deliver the following testimony: UN Marks 75th Anniversary of Genocide Convention, as UNRWA Teachers Incite Genocide Mr. President, we meet to mark the 75th anniversary of the Genocide Convention. In doing so, we pay tribute to Raphael Lemkin, the brilliant international lawyer who coined the term genocide. He tried to sound the alarm during the Holocaust, during which 49 of his relatives, including his parents, were murdered, for the crime of being Jews. After the war, Lemkin helped prosecute Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg Tribunal, and he relentlessly campaigned at the UN for the successful adoption of the Genocide Convention. Today’s panel addresses the role of social media, and their use to amplify hate speech and cause violence. In this regard, the United Nations must set an example. That is why it is so troubling when our monitoring continues to find that school teachers and principals at UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinians, are doing the opposite. Our reports have identified more than 150 UNRWA employees who incited hatred and violence on Facebook. In 2021, we documented a math teacher in Gaza who posted a video of Adolf Hitler, along with quotes to “enrich and enlighten your thoughts and minds.” Last year, we documented an UNRWA teacher in Lebanon who wrote: “By Allah, anyone who can kill and slaughter any Zionist and Israeli criminal, and doesn’t do so, doesn’t deserve to live. Kill them and pursue them everywhere.” And now, our latest report documents how on October 7th, UNRWA teachers cheered the Hamas massacre of 1200 Israelis. One senior official in Gaza eulogized one of the terrorists as a “hero” and “prince.” Mr. President, why is UNRWA refusing to recognize that incitement to hatred, violence and genocide against Jews is a widespread reality among its employees? Are these the values that the UN wishes to teach Palestinian children? Mr. President, if Raphael Lemkin were alive today, what would he think of what has become with the United Nations? 📍 unwatch.org/unrwa-obstacle-t…

Secretary Hillary Clinton’s full remarks today at the UN session led by the State of Israel on sexual and gender based violence on October 7: “As you well know, many women and girls were attacked brutally by Hamas on October 7th, and they have testified to the gender based violence that they both experienced and witnessed. As a global community, we must respond to weaponized sexual violence wherever it happens, with absolute condemnation. There can be no justifications and no excuses. Rape as a weapon of war is a crime against humanity. Such atrocities have no place in any society or any conflict. Organizations, governments, and individuals who are committed to a better future for women and girls have a responsibility to condemn all violence against women. It is outrageous that some who claim to stand for justice are closing their eyes and their hearts to the victims of Hamas. But amid such inhumanity, we can also see women leading the way forward, As is so often the case. I have met survivors of sexual and gender based violence all over the world. They are the ones who inspire me with their incredible courage and resolve. And I have seen first hand that women are not just victims of war, they are agents of peace. That's why I championed Security Council resolutions recognizing the unique impact of conflict on women and girls and the importance of women in peacekeeping and security, and mandating that peacekeeping missions protect women and girls from sexual violence in areas of armed conflict. You know women on both sides of the current conflict in the Middle East have long worked for a just and lasting peace. I have grieved with Israeli women who have lost loved ones to terrorist attacks, but refuse to believe that peace is impossible. I have talked and listened to Palestinian women who have suffered greatly from the conflicts of the past decades, yet dream of a peaceful future and a state of their own. We honor all the brave women on the front lines of conflict by lifting up their voices and bearing witness to the crimes they have endured. I urge everyone present to make your position clear. We stand for the safety and equality of women always and everywhere, from Ukraine to the Middle East, to Sudan to the Democratic Republic of Congo everywhere, and we unequivocally condemn the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th.”
