Excited to share a new paper with co-first author Prof. Ann Pearson (@PearsonGroupEPS) out online today in @geosociety Geology:
"Ammonium “nutrient capacitor” model for δ15N signatures associated with marine anoxic events"

Don't know how big the science community is over here anymore but we had a paper come out today in PNAS: "Aerobic nitrogen cycle 100 My before permanent atmospheric oxygenation"

Big congrats to all, most especially the fabulous Ann Pearson at #Harvard
We are thrilled to announce the election of 120 members and 24 international members to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of their distinguished and continued achievements in original research.
Congratulations to our new #NASmembers and welcome to the Academy!

Just a reminder that Goldschmidt is for organic geochemists too! If you are thinking of coming, check out the session @AZoceanographer and I are convening. Great Lakes, great food and great science, what more could you ask for? Hope to see you in August. conf.goldschmidt.info/goldsc…

Excited to share our work AND a cool cover photo in the current issue of @AppEnvMicro 🤩
We found that cellular energy state & carbon metabolism play an important role in shaping GDGT cyclization in a thermoacidophile.

Check out our cool new cover design featured in the February 2024 issue of @AppEnvMicro! 😍 Thank you to @jeeminhrhim and colleagues for submitting this beautiful cover image taken at @YellowstoneNPS 🌲♨️ journals.asm.org/toc/aem/90/…
The Sparks lab had the first #TidyTueday of the year, and student choice was a Taylor Swift themed data set. This was the visualization I came up with (expand for best view).
Plot shows general increase in Metacritic scores of TSwifts albums, with cover color palettes.

This year’s International Geobiology Course is off to heck of a start at the Frasassi Caves in Italy! We’re talking geochemistry, we’re talking karst, we’re talking microbial metabolisms and astrobiology @jmacalad @newmexicotech @NMT_EES @penn_state @kh_freeman @PSUEMS @GeoscPSU

Calling all organic geochemists! Abstract submissions for both the 2024 GRS and GRC in Organic Geochemistry are now open. Join us for “Navigating the Modern Era of Organic Geochemistry.” Links to GRS (bit.ly/oggrs24) & GRC (bit.ly/oggrc24).
Got my shiny new copy of @PearsonGroupEPS and my paper that is out in this month’s issue of Geology! Check it out!

Just joined up over on the sky-blue site. If anyone here is also on it let me know so I can find you!
Handle over there is the same (benuveges).
If you are still around for Friday afternoon at #AGU23, come check out a talk that @chrisjunium and I put together about nitrogen cycling during OAEs and beyond!

To wrap up this now overly long thread, we think we have come up with a feasible model to recreate OAE δ15N records, and the role of chemocline-modulated NH4+ delivery to their generation.
I am incredibly thankful to @PearsonGroupEPS for coming to find me at the Organic Geochemistry GRC (best conference around) and exclaiming "I have a model that can do that!" after seeing my Kivu data. This was a wonderful collaboration, and I hope people find it interesting!
