In Europe, we have violent video games.
In Europe, we have absent dads.
In Europe, religiosity is much lower overall than in the US.
In Europe, we have mental illness.
And in Europe, we have very few mass shootings.
It's the guns.
Deal with your mess, America.

Thanks for the shoutout @URIGSO 🎉
#URIGSO Ph.D. candidate, Diana Fontaine, is the recipient of @phikappaphi's Love of Learning Award. She will use funds to support her Ph.D. research on the primary production & community composition of phytoplankton on the Northeast U.S. Shelf.
Congrats, @beoceanminded_!

#WHOI's @AdamSubhas recently started testing #oceanalkalinity enhancement in a small-scale field study with non-toxic dye. With @RutgersU, he's also looking at impacts on phytoplankton.

It is so exciting to see this paper out in the world!! So appreciative of all of the co-authors, especially the writing/analysis team — Kaytee Canfield, @AquaticSterling , Chrissy Hernandez, and Sophie Chu.
A fabulous group of @SWMStweets leaders past and present summarized lessons learned from hosting 4 symposia over 2 years to help communities continue to hold inclusive spaces for people in marine science. So thankful and proud to be part of this effort!

What do golf courses, desalination plants, and wastewater treatment facilities all have in common?
They are projects sites for #MarineCarbonDioxideRemoval projects that have recently been funded by @thenopp! @OA_NOAA

Another bonus #PhytoPhriday because I have to highlight Katie Roche! Part of her research looked at species differentiation of a #HAB, Pseudo-nitzschia, in #NarragansettBay & identified what species caused massive shellfish closures in 2016/2017. She’s also a great pug-sitter 😝
Before studying how diatoms interact with their environment at @universityofri #URIGSO, Ph.D. candidate Katie Roche was a Peace Corps volunteer teaching middle school in Guinea.
Meet Katie in this week's #GTKGSO!

So excited to be at OCB this week! 🎉 what a great start to the workshop
Great start to @US_OCB with a session I helped to plan with @rmbundy and other amazing women scientists on biodiversity and ecosystem resilience featuring @JEmmettDuffy, Tammi Richardson, and @beoceanminded_. More great talks to come this afternoon!

Due to hundreds of uncontrolled wildfires across Canada, New York City looks like a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
If you want a prelude of what the world is going to look like if we do not address man-made climate change — this is it.

How many tons of #carbon is the world removing right now? 10k. How much do we need to move? A LOT more than that.
Our first @sxsw panel is happening now- How to Achieve Gigatonne Scale Carbon Removal. Thanks @usepatch for hosting!

Silver in diatoms?! So cool
One element that is not commonly associated with the ocean, but instead jewelry stores, is silver. There is not much silver in the ocean, but it can be used by some marine creatures. Diatoms store silver just like we do, but for a different purpose!
