ALT We all agree that the current SEND system is in urgent need of repair and reform. It is failing children and families. But Richard Tice’s attack on children, young people, parents and professionals is ill-informed. Accusing families of being in on the game and comparing the costs of educating disabled children with those of bin collections is a slap in the face for mums and dads and young people struggling to get the help and support they need. Denying children the help they need costs more in the long term as they fall further behind at school, sometimes become unable to go to school at all and their parents are too often forced to give up work.

ALT What we need is a system that is set up to meet the needs of all children, so that children with SEND can enjoy the same ordinary things as their peers, like a school place where they belong and can learn. We urge Richard Tice to talk to children and families to understand what would actually help to shift their lives and futures.
