The 4AT delirium assessment tool is already established as a well-validated & clinically effective method of delirium detection in practice. It is scored 0-12. Scores of 4+ indicate delirium; scores of 1-3 indicate cognitive impairment. A recent study found that scores of 1+ are strongly linked with known dementia Dx. This opens up the possibility that the 4AT can serve a dual purpose as both a delirium assessment tool AND a tool that could help identify dementia. In the UK the Triple Assessment is mandated for all >65 emergency hospital admissions. This is: vital signs (NEWS2) / Clinical Frailty Score / 4AT. 🌠 These new findings suggest that the 4AT could also assist in other healthcare systems, e.g. the 4Ms framework used in the USA. In one short (2 min) tool it could help address the delirium & dementia elements of the Mentation element of the 4Ms. 🔗 to editorial & other sources below 👇 #delirium #dementia #medtwitter

There’s a remarkable level of exclusion afoot for those who don’t have a smart phone, want to talk to a person, don’t understand apps. It is an insidious war on the old & the poor. Why does no one comment on it?

‼️ We need to use the word 'delirium' for #delirium. 🚫 no more 'acute confusion', 'acute on chronic confusion', etc. ➡️ Only use 'acute encephalopathy' for the underlying pathology 📕 Key consensus article: link.springer.com/article/10… #WDAD2023 @iDelirium_Aware

This is great news as OT’s who undertake Advanced Clinical Practice Masters course should not be disadvantaged or disempowered because of their profession. Looking forward to knowing the timetable @EllieCorbett2 @PayalWilson @bevmcr
@theRCOT is ready to evidence benefits to people's care of having OTs with greater prescribing responsibilities. We wait on the legislative timetable. Advocate using PGDs to evidence OT is ready. @RCOT_Paul welcomes e.g.s of how people's care would benefit from NMP OTs

Any OT ACP’s working in ED?
Replying to @ot_acp
@ot_acp OT Trainee ACP working in ED here, starting my dissertation on the need for OT ACP to NMP. Have seen the tweets below, would love to hear some of the problems people have been having with regard to this and if there are any other OT ACP`s working in ED? Thanks!

🙌🙌 💯 we are at a huge disadvantage compared to our colleagues if this isn’t sorted out. OTs shouldn’t have to miss out on career opportunities and progression
Having NMP is an essential criteria for most ACP jobs. It’s time OTs develop this skill to remain in the competition. ACP roles are inter-professional and OTs are losing out. What is RCOT doing to solve this? @RCOT__Karin @RCOT_Paul @SteveGFord @OdethRichardson
