Maybe I'm just too old school, but my experience in print journalism (@Newsday, @WSJ and @Newsweek and @now @nypost) and then Tv (@CNBC and @FoxNews @FoxBusiness) has been that management (editors and top producers) do this all the time. They set rules of the road and you either follow them or leave. And lets face it: @CBS leaks like a sieve, which I appreciate as a reporter who occasionally covers the company, BUT it must be frustrating to management. This isn't "obedience" it's called "management" because you cant a functioning newsroom that is in disarray. BTW if you dont like what @Shayndi or @bariweiss brings to the table, just leave. There is no First Amendment right to work at @CBS
News: I'm told there was a very combative meeting of the CBS News London bureau today held by foreign editor Shayndi Raice.
Raice, I am told, "lectured" staffers about hierarchy, obedience and management’s right to dictate editorial decisions, explicitly warning that ignoring instructions could constitute insubordination and grounds for dismissal.
I am told that CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams pushed back on Raice regarding an incident mentioned in last night's edition of Status -- about an Evening News report on the anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that omitted the death toll from the war in Gaza .... and Raice defended the decision.
Congrats @MikeIsaac !! More books?

Note no mention of how they died and who was responsible. No mention that they were innocent civilians starting their work day and first responders who went to save them.
No mention of the highjacking of the airplanes that were flown into the World Trade Center. No mention of murder or terrorism or who was responsible. Just a benign statement that a few thousand people died that day. He seems to imply they died of natural causes.
Now can you understand why the families don’t want @NYCMayor Mamdani at the 9/11 memorial?

I looked into who is really paying our taxes in New York and it’s all at risk.
Only 0.2% of all businesses filing in New York, 799 corporations, carry 74% of the entire corporate tax burden.
And just 99,404 “millionaire” filers, well under 1% of taxpayers, cover 44.6% of all income tax collected.
The top 200 individuals alone pay $5.5 billion to the state annually.
New York State relies on roughly 100,000 people to fund its budget, and it could fall like a house of cards.
Our tax base are walking out the door. 176,000 high earners left between 2018 and 2023, taking $50 billion in income with them.
As Comptroller, I will derisk New York’s tax base with the $10 billion Empire Opportunity Fund, deploying pension capital to grow jobs and revenue, so our fiscal future doesn’t depend on 100,000 people never leaving.

This video of a rescue last night on the Brooklyn Bridge will take your breath away.
High above the East River, NYPD ESU officers climbed onto the Brooklyn Bridge to reach a woman in crisis who was threatening to jump.
For nearly an hour, they stayed with her, spoke with her, and waited for the moment they could safely pull her back from the edge.
The care, courage, and compassion these officers showed was just extraordinary. May God bless them.

Marcus Lemonis warns New York’s policies could drive down property values, revealing he’s selling his home and moving out of the city:
“Socialism isn’t great under any circumstances, but the ideas he’s proposing have to be funded by somebody. That wealth has to be created. Much like you, I’m a Florida resident, but I also have a home here. I’m waiting for my tax notice later this year, and my house is already up for sale. I don’t want to live in a city where I believe it’s becoming too difficult for my property value to appreciate the way it does in places like Florida. Over time, these policies are going to hurt both commercial and residential real estate values. Give it another two or three years, and I think what we’re seeing now is only a preview.”

New statement from Scott Pelley:
There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.
The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.
“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.
The waste is heartbreaking.
Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.
For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.
At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.
I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.
Scott Pelley

We are ALL FAILING this country.
Donald Trump needs to be removed from office.
He should have been removed before the war started. He is mentally unwell.
Forget the Jesus pictures. Forget the Pope. We can go through hundreds of examples.
The sane washing — pretending this is normal — that's just the surface problem.
The real problem is that we have willing accomplices.
What we have in America right now is a complete failure of political elites to execute on the constitutional system that was built specifically for this moment.
We are all accomplices to this man's reckless behavior.
-Every senator who stays quiet.
-Every executive who writes the check.
-Every commentator who normalizes it.
He needs to be removed from office and he won't be.

I always speak about the police running towards danger when everyone else runs away — that happened today.
Officers ran towards a man carrying an ignited suspicious device. They put the safety of others above their own.
Today, as always, I thank them for their noble service.
