BYU's Roger Saleapaga gets good separation vs. Eddie Lemos and he reeled in a deep ball from Bear Bachmeier, who rolled to his left and hit him in stride. Saleapaga goes 63 yards and it's first-and-goal for BYU. 7-3 BYU. 2:00 2Q

Perfect throw from Bear Bachmeier to Roger Saleapaga. The Bachmeier-Saleapaga connection has been strong dating back to Spring Camp.

One hundred twenty-two catches. One thousand eight hundred twenty-six yards. Twenty-two touchdowns.
That was his high school career at a school in Utah County — and fourteen of those touchdowns came in his senior season alone, along with more than twelve hundred yards. He played basketball too. Alabama offered. So did Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Miami, Washington, UCLA, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor.
And BYU recruited him hard, which mattered, because his older brother had already worn the uniform — an offensive lineman in Provo from 2017 to 2020.
He picked Oregon.
You should know he was not wrong to. Oregon was a national power with an NFL pipeline and a quarterback room full of first-round arms. Any eighteen-year-old in the country would have taken that call.
Here is what the next two years looked like.
Year one: eleven games played. Zero receptions. Of the 194 snaps he took, 158 of them were on special teams. He recovered an onside kick. He made two tackles. A boy who had caught a hundred and twenty-two passes in high school did not catch a single one.
Year two: the Ducks had two future NFL draft picks at tight end. He was the third. He played 165 snaps, and on 111 of them his assignment was to run block. Three catches. Twenty-six yards.
Twenty-six yards. In two seasons. For the best pass-catching tight end his high school ever produced.
His one touchdown came in the College Football Playoff semifinal — a night Oregon lost to Indiana 56-22. The last image the country had of him was a young man celebrating in a blowout that was already over.
His name is Roger Saleapaga.
On the twelfth of January he entered the transfer portal.
He did not have to wonder who would call.
"I had a feeling that BYU was going to be the first school to call," he told the Deseret News. They were. "I ended up taking a visit, and almost instantly I said, 'Yeah, I am coming back home.'"
Ask him why and there is no strategy in the answer, no depth chart math, no talk of opportunity.
"I just wanted to get back home again. That's the bottom line, really."
He announced it on Instagram with five words and a picture of a house: GODS DOING, HOME. COMMITTED.
And his older brother — the one who had worn the uniform first, the one whose path he had not taken — posted two words.
"He's home."
He is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. He has two seasons left and a redshirt still available. Coaches in Provo think he could lead the team in receiving.
Twenty-six yards in two years, and the boy who caught everything is finally being asked to catch again — nineteen miles from the field where he caught it all the first time.
Now you see the whole picture.
Commercial autonomous mobility in the Phoenix East Valley will arrive — sooner than most think. For me, it seems like forever...

Calling it now.
Roger Saleapaga will be BYU’s most critical pickup.
Legend Glasker will be BYU’s FOY.
LJ Martin will repeat as Big12 OPY.
Nusi Taumoepeau will be the biggest pass rush threat.
And this team will entertain the masses.
It was a great Spring Ball.
