Ecosystems inspire ✨
🌱 Soils provide a variety of cultural ecosystem services to us, like the benefits derived from simply interacting with nature, artistic inspiration, or a sense of place and heritage.

In our latest Laboratory Series video, Dr. Natalia Rodríguez Fernández, Postdoc in Environmental Microbiology at the Technical University of Munich, shows how soil samples are transformed into data, from DNA extraction to sequencing.

🌾 Soils are used to grow crops, mushrooms, and graze livestock on pastures.
🌱 But that's not all! Provisioning ecosystem services describe the products, materials and resources coming from nature that form the basis of human life.

🌱In our latest video, experts from BIOservicES and @RWE_AG explore how soil organisms, from earthworms to microorganisms, play a crucial role in rebuilding soil structure, restoring ecosystems, and supporting long-term land recovery.

⚖️ Regulating ecosystem services generally do not have a direct, obvious market price. But their impact is real.
⛈️ When these processes get out of control, the damage to humans can be more than financial.

🌱Did you know that soils provide a big part of supporting ecosystem services? These are the foundational processes, that maintain the conditions for all other ecosystem services.
🌍Two major ones, nutrient cycling and soil biodiversity, are provided by soils!
