What this line of argument misses is that we are trying to short circuit billions of years of evolution. Yes our brains famously work at 20 watts, but how long did it take us to get here?
We have to double down on what works and if it does work, energy will be the least of our worries.
"Electricity bill .. up 60% since 2023" in Athens, Georgia (US) due to new AI data center demand for electricity.
One of the under-appreciated facts about the current state-of-the art AI is how extraordinarily energy inefficient it is.
This is a huge issue for India. Even if we could afford all the GPUs (not!), we cannot afford the electricity bill. We cannot afford to hurt households and factories.
We need vastly more energy efficient AI. I believe that requires fundamentally rethinking the computational aspect of AI.

A recent distress call: a student has taken about ₹70L ($80K) debt at 12% to get a master's degree in a small college in the US.
The problem: the job scene in IT is bad, especially so for foreign students and payments on the loan are starting soon.
I don't know what we could do in this situation because we have not been hiring much as we transform ourselves for the AI era. That caution in hiring is also because we have a policy of not resorting to lay-offs.
I urge students and parents to be cautious in borrowing heavily to pursue degrees abroad. Borrowing heavily to pursue degrees in India is unwise too.
I strongly believe we should not trap young people in debt in the name of education. The only smart course is for prospective employers to fund training programs and for the industry to broadly accept such alternative credentials rather than ask for formal degrees.
The best investment we make as a company is in training and skill development. I hope companies do this widely so we don't strand young people in debt.

#WATCH | Punjab | On probability of business at Attari border getting affected due to the government of India closing the integrated checkpost at Attari in the wake of the horrific #PahalgamTerroristAttack, a businessman from Attari, Manjeet Singh, says, "Our business will function somehow, but what happened (terrorist attack) was extremely wrong... It is one thing when soldiers are attacked because at least they know how to respond. But attacking tourists is extremely wrong... There is no problem if the number of tourists visiting our business decreases. We are with the country... The decision PM Narendra Modi has taken is good."
#WATCH | Morning visuals from the Attari Integrated checkpost in Punjab's Amritsar.
In the wake of the horrific #PahalgamTerroristAttack, the government of India has decided to close the integrated checkpost Attari with immediate effect. Those (Pakistani nationals) who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through that route before 1st May 2025.

As long as BMTC MD does not travel everyday by bus, issues of BMTC won’t get addressed.
As long as BMRCL MD doesn’t travel by metro, issues of overcrowded metro coaches or lack of last mile connectivity won’t get addressed.
The people who run our public transport institutions must mandatorily use them. Unless you feel the pinch of the shoe, you won’t fix it.

My friend's wife needed root canal treatment in New Zealand. The clinic quoted $2,500. She flew back to India in the off season for $900 and got it done in her hometown in Haryana for $50. Healthcare is a huge problem in the West due to lack of enough doctors and hospitals.
