"Greenfield" codebases don't really exist anymore. Let me explain: I get asked a lot: "do your skills work on greenfield codebases?" or "do they work on legacy codebases?" Greenfield vs Brownfield is a distinction that has never really felt real to me. - Greenfield: you are building new software from scratch - Brownfield: you are editing existing software The truth is that the green field that we imagine when we start out a new project is an illusion. We are not spitting out software into an empty void. There are existing systems to integrate with. User preferences to work around. The only difference between Greenfield and Brownfield is the state of your repo. In a Greenfield project you haven't set up coding conventions. There is no prior art to work from. You have an opportunity to set up your agent's experience in that repo from scratch. But since code is being produced faster than ever before, how long does that codebase stay green? Two days? A week at most? All the fields are brown, and being churned up faster than ever. Your default posture should be "this is a legacy codebase", even if it's a week old.

Once again I have to ask: Americans, do you really accept everything that just happened in the white house? You just witnessed the moment that destroyed the last remnants of worlds trust in the USA.

This list just makes me sad. All the things I like are on the left. Why are we so bad at this on this side of the Atlantic?
Let's make Europe stronger by buying European! Here's a very Nordic-centric list of alternatives, but I also want to hear your favorite substitutes for American products.

Saw this and realised that one day I bought my last CD and I didn't even realise. I can't even remember what it would have been. 🤔
What’s the last DVD or Blu-ray you’ve bought, if any?

Britain is about to switch off its last coal power station. MyGridGB has been tracking coal use for 10 years now. From supplying 40% of our electricity when I started my PhD to today… it’s been quite the journey. So, bye bye King Coal. It’s time for renewables now

Been restoring a C64C. It's had a good clean and been left out in the sun for a few days now. Motherboard had a nice bath in IPA. Before and after! #commodore #c64 #retro

BBC good food being part of the TV license was what made it worth it. Now that it's ANOTHER f'ing subscription service I'm absolutely sad. I'm not signing up @bbcgoodfood. It's not right.

As the uk builds more renewables, we should have more and more bargains. But it needs market reform- locational pricing- to really bring costs down. Sadly, too many companies enjoy getting paid to not generate elec rather than cut prices and are fighting plans to bring bills down

Went down a tin mine at Geevor in Cornwall yesterday. Absolutely appeals to my desire to know how everything works. You need tin for solder. Copper for wire. It all comes out the ground. You need energy to mine it. I feel like I'm in the right place. #energy #resources
