Actually no, the Roman Empire was undone by two types of malaria, vivax and falciparum that made the Romans chronically ill and growth stunted, followed by a third hit from the Antonine plague (most likely smallpox) 166-180 CE introduced by returning Roman armies from Seleucia (Mesopotamia). Two additional plagues didn’t help. Bottom line it was failure to control pandemic threats, which undid the Roman Empire, and now we’re making the identical mistake.
The reason Rome fell was because they stopped making Romans

Data for vaccine benefit in children "Since 1974, vaccination has averted 154 million deaths, including 146 million among children younger than 5 years of whom 101 million were infants younger than 1 year." thelancet.com/journals/lance… The most striking benefit was for vaccination vs measles (Figure) The childhood vaccine distortions today by executive order will further add to the marked increase in US measles cases, currently the highest in 35 years.

I’m a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. Breaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe. Parents should listen to their child’s pediatrician about vaccines rather than listening to an inaccurate executive order. This is so wrong. xitter.cf/axios/status/208688294…

On @CNNSOTU with @DanaBashCNN this morning. I said three things: 1. Political leaders are accountable for public health decisions, not the scientists who advise them 2. The vaccine-autism question has been studied for 25 years. The answer hasn't changed: there is no link 3. Right now too many kids are getting measles that vaccinations prevent, too many people are getting cyclospora that better tracking prevents, and ranchers are losing cattle to a pest we eliminated from this country in 1966. Three outbreaks at levels we haven't seen in years. None of them are coincidence. Stick around for the end — my view on COVID origins.

KENNEDY: Can you show me one study that shows that children were protected by the COVID vaccine? CDC: “During December 19, 2021–October 29, 2023, receipt of ≥2 doses of an original monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccine was 52% effective against pediatric COVID-19 hospitalization and 57% effective against critical illness related to COVID-19, when the last dose was received within the 4 months preceding hospitalization, but protection decreased over time.” cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/73/wr/m…

RFK, Jr pretends to be a scientist and a physician. Did he spend a single day in a hospital during the pandemic? He’s critical of mitigation efforts but does he know what it was like for healthcare workers who put their own lives in harm’s way every single day for almost a whole year until a vaccine was available.? Has he thanked them for their sacrifice?

And life expectancy was 32. Personally I'm a fan of a world where kids survive childhood because of vaccines Where people don't die of infections that you can't treat And cool new mRNA based vaccines treat cancer so people can live long healthy lives But that's me
Just 100 years ago: Most dairy products were consumed raw. Most honey was unprocessed. Seed oils were not commonly used. Genetically modified (GMO) foods did not exist. PFAS chemicals had not yet been developed. Synthetic food dyes were not in widespread use. Plant-based meat alternatives did not exist. High-fructose corn syrup had not been invented. Autoimmune diseases, heart disease, cancer, and obesity were far less common than they are today. Do you see what is happening?

The only way proven way to suppress and eradicate NWS is through SIT. The current USDA plan is necessary but not fast enough for the unfolding crisis. Additional sterilized flies are needed now. There are modular options that were scientifically validated in the 1950s that have potential to scale within months to provide an initial operational capability to start closing the sterilized fly gap long before the planned fixed facilities may come on line at the end of 2027, at the earliest. The fly is not waiting to spread, why should we wait to accelerate new options?

Sending Americans who are exposed to or infected with Ebola to Kenya (instead of bringing them home) is an extraordinarily bad idea and it will backfire On the surface -- it seems smart. Why not send people elsewhere instead of bringing them home For three reasons actually 🧵
Trump administration plan to quarantine Americans suspected of having high-risk exposures to #Ebola in Kenya meets on-the-ground opposition. The plan to quarantine people exposed & treat cases abroad relies on good will the US may not have right now. washingtonpost.com/world/202…

Ebola in DRC's Ituri Province. 246 suspected cases, 65 deaths. If confirmed, already one of the 10 biggest Ebola outbreaks in history We're just hearing about this now? That makes no sense. Those numbers take weeks to accumulate Suspected cases in Bunia, the provincial capital — a city with airports. That matters enormously for spread CDC and global partners need to surge resources in. Ituri is where the 2018 outbreak ignited. A slow response creates unnecessary risks to people everywhere
Ebola Virus Disease outbreak confirmed in Ituri Province, DRC Africa CDC is closely monitoring the situation and convening an urgent high-level coordination meeting today with the DRC, Uganda, South Sudan and global partners to reinforce cross-border surveillance, preparedness and outbreak response efforts. Following consultations with DRC’s Ministry of Health and National Public Health Institute, preliminary laboratory results from L’Institut National de Recherche Biomédical - INRB Kinshasa detected Ebola virus in 13 of 20 samples tested. About 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths have been reported, mainly in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones. Four deaths have been reported among laboratory-confirmed cases. Suspected cases have also been reported in Bunia, pending confirmation. 🔗 Read full statement: ow.ly/g2Z450Z02vj #EbolaOutbreak #HealthSecurity #DRC

Literally no one who did more to advance our understanding of -- and treatments for -- heart disease than Gene Braunwald. Ever. One of the greatest physicians of the last 50 years has passed away at the age of 96 Know someone who survived a heart attack? You can thank EB
The American Heart Association mourns the passing of the legendary cardiologist Eugene Braunwald, M.D., widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the history of cardiovascular medicine. Over seven decades, his work reshaped the understanding and treatment of heart disease, leading many to call him the father of modern cardiology. Braunwald was a lifelong contributor to the American Heart Association, helping advance its research and scientific mission, and was honored with some of the Association’s highest honors for his lasting influence on cardiovascular care and research. His influence extended well beyond his own discoveries, as generations of Association‑supported investigators, clinicians and academic leaders were trained by Braunwald or guided by the clinical trial standards and mentorship models he helped establish. newsroom.heart.org/news/amer…

This is just absolute, unequivocal bullshit. The IAEA says this is a lie. The UN says its a lie. The US intelligence community can't back up this assertion, nor can the Israelis. This is as bad as claims that Iraq had WMDs if not worse.
Trump: "If we didn't hit within 2 weeks, they would've had a nuclear weapon. When crazy people have nuclear weapons bad things happen."
