1. Run a Bitcoin node and install "datum"
2. Buy an open source miner, point it to your node, and mine your own blocks
Today we're witnessing what happens when the role of deciding what is in a block becomes too centralized. Run a mining node asap. Lots of tutorials available.

By default, fork.observer now shows the block pools are mining on. Thanks you @boerst for providing the stratum.work data!

I am looking for chain data from a number of chains that merge mined with Bitcoin to build out the dataset.
Missing data includes Xaya, i0coin, Jincoin, Jax.Network, Fusioncoin, Huntercoin, Bitcoin Stash, BLAST, VCash, Syscoin (v2).
Please reach out if you have any!

JUST IN: World's former largest Bitcoin mining pool, Poolin, files for bankruptcy.
Poolin plans to sell two Texas mining sites after listing as little as $1M in assets but up to $500M in liabilities.
It owes roughly $173M, including $164M to customers after withdrawals were suspended.
At its peak in 2019, Poolin mined roughly 1 in every 7 Bitcoin blocks worldwide.

What is the most important project in bitcoin right now?
One that obsoletes Slipstream and non-standard transaction concerns, that forces the spam and BIP-110 discussion to resolve organically in a decentralised way, and that prevent the single largest attack vector in the entire ecosystem.
In this Guy's Take, I give a breakdown on DATUM and Stratum V2, the indispensable protocols which are radicalising the way mining works.

1/ Introducing the Merge Mining Monitor, another tool in service of the Bitcoin monitoring mission.
Merge mining lets child chains ride on Bitcoin's PoW, preserving the parent headers miners hashed.

Don't imagine this can't happen to Bitcoin.
10h ago @litecoin experienced a coordinated attack on the chain that resulted in 13 blocks reorg that took more than 3h to generate.
During this time attackers were performing double spend attacks on multiple cross-chain swapping protocols.
We are investigating the situation.
Tracking this on mainnet.observer/charts/bloc… and mainnet.observer/charts/bloc… now.
Totaling about 29 BTC unclaimed at the moment. Last time someone didn't claim the full reward was 6 years ago at height 626205 (2020-04-16): 68 sat not claimed.
This makes me wonder if anyone is actively tracking how many - and in which specific blocks - coins have been destroyed "the definitive way"

The more nodes that are proposing unique blocks to the network, the more robust and censorship resistant the network is.
We need to lose the mentality that nodes and hashers are different people. That if you can’t turn a profit hashing then you should leave it to those that can.
