Over 80% of insect species live in the tropics, yet these are often the species we know least about. Our new BioScience paper asks why and how we can change this. We cannot conserve insects if tropical species remain invisible to science and policy. 🦋🌍 doi.org/10.1093/biosci/biag1…

Our new @NatureEcoEvo paper documents range shifts in 1,758 butterfly species across 105 countries, primarily due to climate change. 🦋80% expanded 🦋27% contracted 🦋22% shifted elevation 🦋342 showed multiple shift types. doi.org/10.1038/s41559-026-0… @MonashBiol @Monash_Science

Went here last year, hosted by @ShannonXing - had a blast. My favorite thing about it were all the rules and fine print about the deal (first author, corresponding etc.). Very true to life and reflective of how silly publishing is these days.
There’s a cafe in Shenzen’s biotech hub that gives you free coffee for a month if you publish in Nature or Science.

Could the alarming decline in insect populations complicate efforts to fight climate change? Research led by @hku_science’s Professor Louise Ashton sheds light on how plants sequester carbon – and points to the need to protect vulnerable insects. 🧵

We’re missing a global indicator to track insects. By analyzing thousands of butterfly populations, we highlight both promising signals and key challenges—showing why these taxa are strong candidates for building a Global Index to support conservation. conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.c…

Here's one just out this week! We examined the evolutionary relationship between Manis cf. mysteria and other Asian pangolins nature.com/articles/s41437-0…
We also want to highlight all of the emerging research on pangolins! Two potential new pangolin species have emerged in the past few years, and research on them is still underway. We applaud everyone who has worked on these discoveries, and are excited to see where they lead!👏
