Thrilled to have backed Zaky and Min who are building the future of pesticides
I’m super excited to announce that @molagri has raised $5.8M USD ($8.2M CAD) in pre-seed + seed funding to develop resistance-free pesticides! Pests evolve resistance to every pesticide we throw at them, and new chemistry takes a decade to reach the field. At Molagri, we engineer insect virus-like particles to deliver programmable bio-insecticidal payloads into pests, with species level precision. Our precision biopesticides can be updated as fast as pests adapt, keeping resistant pests under control. With that being said, we’re hiring!! Check out all roles at molagri.com/careers. We are looking for Scientists and RAs with experience in: → Synthetic Virology for RNA Delivery → Insect Biology and Bioassays → Molecular Display and Binder Discovery → Yeast Expression and VLP Production Read the full announcement here → molagri.com/blog/seed-round

Our Metasystem built and optimized an LLM router. Automatically. It beat other approaches at every price point. It took 1 engineer 2.5 weeks from data collection to full results. Only 12 hours of that was the Metasystem optimizing the router.

.@molagri is bringing techniques from human therapeutics to agriculture. The company has engineered virus-like particles to target specific species in a way that evades resistance. The result is a safe, highly targeted and durable insecticide. Thrilled to back @zakyhassan and lead their $5.8M seed: convective.substack.com/p/wh…

Trying hard to get excited about Darshini for D8 - but what a bummer her housing policy seems to have all been written by ChatGPT cc: @GrowSF
folks,,, it's time to declare Darshini-mentum! No other candidate unites @saikatc-backed SF Solidarity Club and @GrowSF! let's elect Darshini Patel to D8! It'll be great! Or at least, it'll be entertaining, and better than the alternatives.

YC gets founders into the room where it happens.
I had the honor of sitting down with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman (@NASAAdmin) at @ycombinator's event in DC, The Startup Industrial Base: Building for the Next 250. We talked about how new space capabilities find their first real customer, and what it takes for in-space refueling to go from demo to service. 🚀⛽

I’m joining @ycombinator as a General Partner. YC is a homecoming for every GP. All of us were previously YC founders, and lived the journey that we support founders through every day. Our alma mater taught us the lessons that we pass on. My founder path was infinitely harder than I thought it would be. We hit incredible highs and brutal lows. We came within a few months of zero runway. The YC mantras kept me going: make something people want, and don’t die. Over the course of my companies, we touched thousands of lives: employing people in almost every US state (Alaska still evades me!), and teaching STEM to students from every walk of life. Now, I’ve had the privilege of working with founders who are tackling some of the hardest problems today, including defense, space, energy, and manufacturing. We’re also entering an era of diffusing AI across businesses of all sizes, and founders are bringing these tools into their old workplaces and new customers to make work better. Finally, I’m particularly interested in our work at YC to partner closely with the government to make sure technology serves everyone. Our Startup Industrial Base conference yesterday was the start of this, with more to come. Founders are the backbone of American innovation and core to the future of our country and economy. Thank you to the YC partnership for believing in me, and the YC founders for trusting me. There’s never been a better time to make something people want.

Under Secretary of War Jules Hurst appreciated the opportunity to join @ycombinator's Startup Industrial Base: Building for the next 250. He highlighted how greater budget transparency and timely execution data can help the @DeptofWar, Congress, and industry better align resources with priorities, thus moving proven capabilities to the warfighter faster. He also advised innovators to solve real problems, understand the acquisition path, and demonstrate to the Department they can deliver at scale. "Having the users like your products is incredibly necessary," Hon. Hurst said. "But it's the program offices and the [portfolio acquisition executives, or] PAEs who really have the power to make you successful. You have to provide the solution to them. "Again, they’ve made their budget. They made it a year and a half ago. They've made a plan to execute that budget. So anything you're bringing in is, at times, disruptive to them if they have an established program. So you've got to figure out how you can fit in.”

Thrilled to get to work with both Vivian and Raphael!
We’re excited to welcome @vivianmshen and @raphaelschaad as YC’s newest General Partners! Vivian and Raphael first came to YC as founders. Vivian co-founded Juni Learning (W18), which teaches kids coding and math, and later founded Acely, an AI tutor for college prep. Raphael founded Cron (W20), the calendar app that became Notion Calendar. They built products used by millions of people, then returned to YC as Visiting Partners to help other founders. Now they're doing it full-time. ycombinator.com/blog/welcome…

Sometimes I remember this anecdote about Kissinger (told by Winston Lord) and think it might be a good approach with agents:
There is a lot of latent ability in coding agents, particularly in product/design. They will deliver shoddy work, but when you point that out, they can fix problems with only a small nudge Instead of writing up detailed feedback, try just saying “this sucks, can you improve it?”

Seriously, what a hero
One of the Israeli passengers who subdued the pilot-hijacker on board flydubai FZ 1073 told PM Netanyahu that the stabbed captain managed to open the cockpit door before collapsing. This enabled the passengers to enter and seize the attacker, as he was attempting to destroy the aircraft systems and crash the plane.
