Not a word about tariffs, corruption, or insanely bad candidates, but he manages to blame the Jews.
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up.
So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us."
Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.
There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true.
But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.
Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.)
In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you.
The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.
If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest.
But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.
I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

So get out and vote @IanCForTO . Strong environmentalist and committed community participation in neighbourhood plans and government.
We need to stop the decline. Our trees and public spaces have been neglected. In our neighbourhood half the boulevard trees are dead, the facilities at Corktown Common are rotting from water damage and grafetti and massive development changes are done with no input from residents. Public spaces are fenced in and abandoned. Traffic is dangerous, bike lanes dump you into busy streets.
Community policing has disappeared.
Joint Statement by CIJA and London Jewish Federation:
Targeting the homes of Jewish students outside Western University with a Nazi swastika was not only an act of antisemitism, but also an attack on the inclusive, democratic values that all Canadians share.
We are proud of the students who responded with solidarity and defiance, affirming their Jewish identity and promptly engaging authorities.
We commend London Police for swiftly arresting and charging the perpetrator with a hate-motivated offence under the Combatting Hate Act, important legislation our community helped advance.
But enforcement must be consistent nationwide and extremism must be stopped before it takes root.
We call on Minister @SeanFraserMP to urgently convene provincial and territorial Attorneys General and Public Safety Ministers to coordinate enforcement of existing and new hate laws. And we urge authorities at all levels to confront the radicalization spreading across our campuses and throughout the country, where antisemitic libels and conspiracies about Jews and Israelis fuel hatred, violence and even terrorism.
Our organizations stand with the Jewish students targeted by this act of hate and remain committed to a Canada where everyone can live safely and express their identity without fear.

Ian Cunningham for Ward 10
#SpadinaFortYork !
Having served as a mayor, city councilor and cabinet minister, I know the difference between talking about cities and actually building them.
What impresses me most about @IanCForTO is that he listens, takes residents’ concerns seriously and responds quickly to get things done. He brings energy, practical judgment and genuine compassion to the challenges facing our neighbourhoods.
Ian has the commitment and determination to make Spadina–Fort York safer, cleaner and stronger. I am enthusiastic about the leadership he can bring to Toronto’s future. He has my full support and my vote!”

Disagree with someone? Fair. Destroy property you know nothing about? That’s not democracy, that’s just disrespect. Leave the signs alone.

This is happening because it’s allowed happen.
Carelessly and casually labelling fellow citizens as “Nazis” and “fascists” is how political violence takes root on our streets.
Police are largely indifferent to this form of incitement, and conspicuously absent when rhetoric predictably escalates into violence.

Gridlock in Spadina–Fort York isn't going to fix itself.
Ian's plan for congestion: better construction coordination so projects aren't stacked on top of each other, smarter traffic management, faster project delivery, transit people can count on, and traffic agents at the intersections that keep locking up.
Which intersection would you put a traffic agent at first? Tell us below 👇

One week ago, our City was shaken by a hate-motivated attack targeting Belleville’s Jewish community at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue.
In the days since, we have seen the very best of Belleville. We have seen our community come together during a time of great difficulty, an outpouring of gratitude and recognition for Constables Jeff Smith and Mike McCurdy and all of the first responders who answered the call that night, and unwavering support for our Jewish community.
As we reflect on the events of last Sunday and the impact they have had on our city, we are clear that there is no place for antisemitism, hate or violence in Belleville. Everyone deserves to feel safe in our community and in their place of worship. We stand firmly with Belleville’s Jewish community and all those who have been impacted by this horrific act of hate.
Constables Jeff Smith and Mike McCurdy are true heroes who showed extraordinary courage that night. They put themselves in harm’s way, saving the lives of many and preventing an unimaginable tragedy. We are incredibly proud and grateful to have them serving our community. Our thoughts remain with Constable Smith and his family as he begins his road to recovery from the serious injuries he sustained in the line of duty.
In the face of hate and violence, Belleville responded with compassion, strength and unity. We looked out for one another, stood together and showed what it means to be a community.
To Belleville’s Jewish community, Constables Smith and McCurdy, our first responders and everyone impacted: Belleville stands with you. ❤️

We haven’t started to grapple with the fact that there was a terror attack targeting Jews in Canada this week that would have been a massacre but for police guarding the synagogue. Years of failed leadership have led to the normalization of antisemitism on both the left and right

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins this evening.
These photos, taken in 1941 in the Lodz ghetto, attest to the fact that even under the oppressive conditions of the ghetto, Jews observed the holiday as an act of faith & resistance.
So too, in Warsaw; a full year after being confined to the ghetto, Jews queued for hours for the opportunity to sit in a sukkah built on a top-floor balcony & to make the blessing over a set of the four species (lulav & etrog) smuggled in from Switzerland.
