Seattle voters, please vote for ranked choice voting (RCV), that's prop 1B, and please retweet for reach! I've voted in Ireland using it and seen its benefits in action, and the @LWV agree that it's the best option on the ballot! Here's five reasons and more info ...

my brilliant teammate @ClintonGeissler categorizes feature ideas as either "raising the floor" (building something necessary, but tablestakes) or "raising the ceiling" (building something that differentiates and drives unique value). super simple, but very effective framework!

So you’re an engineering manager and thinking about becoming an individual contributor. If this is a viable option for you, I think it’s a splendid idea. Details in the thread.

Read this. It’s from today in Texas. Each day you choose to be too busy to join the anti-gun violence movement, you endorse this as the new normal for our kids. For your kids.

We’re rebranding PrestoSQL as Trino. We’re not going anywhere - it’s the same software, by the same people, just under a new name. Read about why we’re doing it: trino.io/blog/2020/12/27/ann… #presto #prestosql #prestodb #trino

The politics around Istio and Knative within Google are fascinating. AFAICT from the outside, they are primarily driven by a few execs who believe that Google "gave away the farm" when they moved K8s into a foundation. A few of my thoughts on this subject: 🧵

Subtitles aren't just for deaf people. Lots of my hearing friends use them, too. If you're hearing and find yourself using subtitles on Netflix and TV and would quite like them at the cinema, please retweet to help normalise their presence! Big thanks #DeafAwarenessWeek

Let's compromise, how about "plague enthusiast".
Dear Media, Please retire the use of the term “Anti-vaxxer.” It is derogatory, inflammatory, and marginalizes both women and their experiences. It is dismissivemy simplistic, highly offensive and largely false. We politely request that you refer to us as the Vaccine Risk Aware.

This cross-shell prompt looks very nice. Rust programmers are killing it when it comes to writing new CLI utilities. github.com/starship/starship

I hear there was a talk at #OpenCoreSummit about how if you build a business on top of Apache-licensed code you don't contribute to, it's stealing. Here's a the folks that wrote the license and founded the Foundation, talking about how that's not true: youtube.com/watch?v=0CLDVMcy…

5/ My overall point here is that senior ICs end up doing so much "shadow" management sometimes, even in the HR sense. I think some folks get saddled with as much of the downsides of management that actual managers have, but without the title/official position/credit.
