Co-led Northwood's seed just 3 years ago, partly just hoping they'd build a better ground station network for Varda. Deeply impressed by how fast @bridgitmendler and crew have moved and how much their ambition has grown. Congrats to them on their $375M Series C today!!
Today, Northwood is announcing a $375M Series C. In February of 2024, less than three years ago, we announced Northwood as a small six-person team. We’ve grown a lot, but the goal stays the same – solve connectivity between Earth and space to take missions further faster. The world is hungry for more data movement through space, and that is what we're building for, with scalable network capacity for the most challenging use cases. We are proud to add new partners to our cap table and continue the journey with existing ones as we enter this new chapter. Thanks to @a16z @DFJvc @WashingHarbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and many others. Read more: northwoodspace.io/blog/north…

Excited to co-lead @NorthwoodSpace Series C! @bridgitmendler and team are building essential infrastructure for the space economy, and we’re thrilled to be on the rocket ship 🚀
We're co-leading @NorthwoodSpace $375M Series C. satellites & launch get a lot of attention, but the space segment is meaningless without ground networks on earth, and those are simply not prepared for what's coming. Northwood is reinventing the ground segment. the tech, the timelines, the economics, and we think they'll create a defining space infrastructure company in the process we're honored to join the team @bridgitmendler @ILIVETWICE @ZakticalComms Griffin

When we first invested in SpaceX back in 2009, the space industry looked very different. It’s been amazing to watch how far things have come, with launch costs falling, satellite deployments accelerating, and an entirely new space economy taking shape. But the ground infrastructure needed to support all of this hasn’t kept up. That’s where @NorthwoodSpace comes in. They’re rethinking a critical piece of space infrastructure that’s been very overdue for innovation. @dfjgrowth is excited to co-lead Northwood’s $375M Series C and partner with @bridgitmendler and team as they bring a new generation of ground infrastructure online!

We’ve backed Northwood since the seed, when they were a six-person team with an idea. Now they’re on multiple continents. Thrilled to continue backing the Northwood team as they solve connectivity between Earth and space, taking missions further faster. 🇺🇸🚀💪
This year has been a busy one for Northwood! We’ve announced and deployed two product lines across multiple continents, we’ve tripled in headcount, we’ve contracted with new customers and deepened engagements with existing ones. There is so much to do and we are just getting started. Grateful for the partnership of @a16z and @DFJvc and substantial follow-on investment from @washingharbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and others in our 300M equity raise and @HSBCInnovation for joining with us for a 75M debt financing. Let’s go build!

@NorthwoodSpace & @bridgitmendler continue to show that deployment pace and production scale are how you serve the future of the space ground station market. This round represents our continued conviction in Bridgit and the team at Northwood, as well as the exploding demand in the broader space market.

Spacecraft are generating more data than ever. The infrastructure receiving it was built for a different era. On Valley of Depth, Northwood CEO @bridgitmendler spoke with @itsmoislam about how Northwood is building the network for the next generation of space missions.

Bridgit Mendler on why the space economy is like the early internet: "I get really inspired by the analogy especially thinking about, you know, for folks that were early with the internet." "There's no way they would've foreseen what the internet is today." "But they were betting on a direction and they were setting up a model that would basically unlock a lot of innovation." "A year ago today, would we think that everybody would be talking about orbital data centers? No way." @bridgitmendler of @NorthwoodSpace with @eriktorenberg
The space economy has a ground infrastructure problem. You can build a satellite and launch it faster than you can connect with it from Earth. Bridgit Mendler is building Northwood to fix that — deploying ground infrastructure in 3 months instead of 3 years. She joins a16'z Erik Torenberg to talk about vertical integration, the $50M Space Force contract, and why space is like the early internet: 00:00 Introduction 6:10 The ground segment bottleneck 10:06 Pandemic antenna origins 13:18 Three months, not three years 18:19 Starlink is not a threat 23:48 The space economy market map 29:45 The Space Force contract 36:03 Culture and values @bridgitmendler @eriktorenberg @NorthwoodSpace

Satellites can’t deliver data without ground stations — and today’s ground tech can’t keep up. We’re building a faster, cheaper way to scale that critical infrastructure. Thanks @SpaceSciGuy for digging in with the team. arstechnica.com/space/2025/0…

To industrialize space, we must also industrialize the ground. If you want to shape the future of the space economy from the ground up, Northwood is hiring 🚀

We are investing in @NorthwoodSpace. To maximally industrialize satellites in space, we must revamp infrastructure on the ground. And that’s what Northwood Space is doing. It’s building one of the most overlooked yet essential components of the space data pipeline: a next-generation, scalable ground-station network for the modern space age. Northwood cofounders @bridgitmendler, Griffin Cleverly, and Shaurya Luthra bring a rare blend of technical acuity and operational intensity, and we’re proud to back them in their Series A — our second investment in this team. Having performed C2 ops on satellites the lack of bandwidth for this is insane. Using the phased array to conduct multiple contacts is a game changer.
