Debrief from the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona 🇪🇸 Three sessions stood out: 1️⃣ Tokenization — with Rowan Varrall (DTIF) & Karin De Ridder (@ANNA_ISIN ) Tokenization doesn't mean abandoning traditional standards, ANNA already maintains ~150M ISINs, including digital tokens. The biggest blocker right now is interoperability between blockchain "islands." Standards are being positioned as the bridge. Also clear: we're not quite ready for 24/7 cross-border settlement at scale. Data infrastructure needs to come first. 2️⃣ MiCA 2 — with Viktor Maier (Baader), Stephan Mögelin (BaFin), Christian Moor (EBA) & Keisuke Kimura (JCBA) 330+ CASPs are now authorised under MiCA, but jurisdiction shopping and fragmentation remain real issues. Big debate on MiCA 2: one unified framework vs. MiCA + MiFID, and centralised EU supervision vs. national regulators. Stablecoins, MPC wallets, fund redemptions and DeFi are still full of practical grey areas. Japan offered an interesting contrast, moving crypto toward securities regulation while keeping stablecoins under payments regulation. 3️⃣ What's actually onchain? With Jordi Mompart (@FCBarcelona ), Maria Sanchez (@Reental_co ), Sitara Jabeen (MSF) & Aliyyah Ahad (Bermuda) FC Barcelona: blockchain is increasingly about fan engagement, collectibles and entertainment, not just speculation. Strong support for interoperability and vendor neutrality. MSF's "Stake2Care" lets users stake ETH/USDC/USDT and route part of the yield to humanitarian work, a genuinely compelling real-world use case. Bermuda was maybe the standout: ~50 licensed digital-asset companies, USDC in use by major retailers, and active government backing. Their ambition: become an onchain national economy, partly to cut payment costs.

Builder Tip of the Week Regulated institutions can't trade on public DEXs due to strict KYC/AML laws—until now. With Permissioned Domains (XLS-80) and the Permissioned DEX, traders can attach a domainID to an OfferCreate transaction. The XRP Ledger will automatically restrict trade execution to verified accounts holding approved Credentials (XLS-70), ignoring anonymous liquidity.
