Hot take: I genuinely don't see the issue with this
This has been the major complaint about the internet switching to private servers like Discord for years, is that you lose out on the inter-connectedness of the internet and how forums could be indexed and everything could be easily searched
I also think Discord is doing this the right way.
- It's only for public servers that anyone can join and scroll through, so it's not like they're exposing your private chats
- You can opt out at an account-wide level from all servers you're in
- Server admins can also opt out
- I believe they're only indexing future messages going forward

This will help programming and Q/A communities on Discord genuinely contribute their knowledge to the internet. This is a good thing.
Discord is about to put your public messages on Google
Discord will start making messages from Discoverable public servers searchable on Google and other search engines from mid-December.
The feature is ON by default in most regions, but you can opt out:
User Settings → Data & Privacy → turn off “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.”
In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, it will be OFF by default.
Private servers, DMs and group DMs are not included. Usernames and avatars won’t appear alongside indexed messages.
