🛑 Attention researchers who train freely-moving rodents! Jess Breda and I developed a protocol for training center-port nose fixation 61% faster than a previous curriculum while keeping violation rates low. Preprint here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Our new preprint is out! Postdocs Thomas Luo (@thomaszluo), Adrian Bondy (@ayjreen), and Julie Charlton (@julie_charlton_) did a fantastic job exploring brain interactions during perceptual decision-making!
How do brain regions interact with each other to give rise to a perceptual decision? @ayjreen @julie_charlton_ and I addressed this question by recording from 8 Neuropixels probes at the same time in rats doing a decision-making task tinyurl.com/ek92bn66

Take a look to our new preprint! Amazing work by @dikshagup @briandepasquale and @cdk007
📢🎉 Excited to share my latest work with @briandepasquale, @cdk007, and @brody_lab on how two common suboptimalities in decision-making (history biases and lapses) may be related and could arise from a single underlying cause! (1/2) doi.org/10.1101/2023.01.18.5…

Deeply saddened to hear of @shenoystanford Krishna Shenoy's passing. He was brilliant and gentle. He embodied the fact that world-class research could, and should, be built by labs fundamentally made of kindness and care for trainees, and for everyone. xitter.cf/StanfordBrain/status/1…
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Krishna Shenoy. He was a pillar of our community, a brilliant scientist and a beloved mentor and colleague. We share our condolences with Krishna’s family, trainees and colleagues. Details to come on a planned memorial service.

🚨🚨🚨#TWEEPRINT TIME🚨🚨🚨 A big mystery in brain research is what are the neural mechanisms that drive individual differences in higher order cognitive processes. Here we present a new theoretical framework w/ @brody_lab @mikio_aoi @SussilloDavid @ValerioMante @jpillowtime 1/16

2/2 For flexible, context-dependent decision-making, the space of network solutions is much larger than previously appreciated. Variability across individuals on where they are in this space is the underlying variable that jointly explains neural and behavioral variability.

It was all a dream. I used to read Discover Magazine. Indeed, my unofficial story is one of group homes and of growing up in the chaos and neglect inherent in having addicted parents and institutional living. It's a story of poverty, survival, perseverance, and hope.
Next week (Nov 16), @SussilloDavid will tell his unofficial story. Among all that we have heard over the years, his is particularly poignant and harrowing. Join us on Zoom. Get the link through growingupinscience.org. #phdchat #phdlife #AcademicTwitter

Back from a fruitful research visit at @HHMIJanelia @emilyjanedennis lab. The focus of our collaboration is quantifying rodents’ food preference during foraging . We did some food preference assays and attempted at brain glucose imaging in a freely moving 🐁 stay tuned !!!
