My son vibe coded a pac man game today and when I told him I was proud of him he said “I feel like I didn’t do anything, why would I be proud?” & I realized that’s a sneaky underlying reason software engineers don’t like ai, anyway: pooc-man.bryan.dad/
I was sitting in a burger king, admiring the decorations, the people working, the diners I shared a meal with, thinking wow, how lucky it is to have a life, to share the planet with others, to have a sandwich, completely forgetting that there is a book about this exact feeling
I wonder if this will be the last time I will ever be absolutely enthralled and ecstatic by the release of new music, ten drunk cigarettes maybe came close, I imagine that feeling will become increasingly rare as I get older, but it used to be a weekly occurrence when I was young
Instead of ignoring all the interview requests I get for sharing a name with the famous movie director bryan woods, I’ve decided to start booking them
Imagined myself being filmed for a nature show while a gentle narrator says “the man rests, sipping a tallboy from a bag in the empty car of a commuter train”
I live in a zip code where I can’t get a new homeowners policy & also operate an insurance company & this really is the simple fact of how it works…insurance profits are capped by regulations (the spirit of which are good) which means taking less risk or going out of business
If I started a new saas company I would have engineers who would just build the integration end to end for customers of a certain size, there’s soo many tools and platforms I want to buy & which I know will save us money but will never be able to devote our own resources to it
Had an out of body experience & observed myself from a short distance pounding cold brew and popping zyn while feverishly typing prompts into claude in a midtown coffee shop & shared a good spirited laugh at myself with myself
Quantum computing seems like the big thing that’ll happen computation-wise in my lifetime, not ai/llms, and it’s beautiful to me that it’s only useful for the most difficult/unsolvable problems
I miss him every day & love to share this terrible angle pic of us after one of the most beautiful long runs I’ve ever been on, at a hard time, during which david built me up and took me seriously & made me want to keep running for as long as we could keep talking
One year without @DBGerrard. I searched my phone but couldn’t find a photo that captures how much he meant to me. Love you always DBG. Please read his work.
Imagined a new kind of weed dispensary opened but instead of weed it sold IPAs, Zyn, and snacks…maybe you could gas up on your way out…it would be so nice
Never fully appreciated how funny it is to have no present for jesus & deciding to rip a drum solo for him instead
Initially I thought I’d spend maybe 2-4 years on this problem but as it becomes “my life’s work” I’m honestly very proud
