Just my two cents as we’re a few weeks out from being able to send contracts for summer ball: If your goal is to play on the Cape, one of the best ways to ensure that never happens is to sign with another league in October. Every May/June I’m inundated with agents trying to get players out of contracts in other summer leagues after their clients have had a big spring. They’re always surprised when I tell them they’re bound to that contract. “My coach/advisor said we could get out of it” is something I hear a ton, and the truth is, more often than not, you can’t. If the Cape is your goal, sit on your hands and see how your spring goes. If the Cape doesn’t materialize, there will still be opportunities in other leagues in May and June. You may have to wait a week or two for a spot, but that’s a much better position to be in than having a great spring and realizing a contract you signed in October closed the door on a Cape opportunity.
