My snap judgements on the new trailer for The Altruists, as someone who worked for SBF: 🧵👇 1) First thought: Wow, the trailer’s depiction of Caroline is basically slander. And I’m saying this as someone she stole money from. They’re strongly suggesting that Caroline was the mastermind behind Sam’s risk-taking behavior, which is… not at all what actually happened. But the trailer emphasizes this repeatedly! Caroline: “Going all in every time is the mathematically optimal strategy” Caroline: “If we reinvest all in, every day, how can we possibly lose” Caroline: “We go all in, or I’m out” Caroline: “Lying isn’t bad for a good cause” Sam, to Caroline: “You were the one who did it” I mean, the court documents are a matter of public record, the writers could’ve gone and read them. Also, “If we reinvest all in, every day, how can we possibly lose” – what? You would be fired from any trading firm in the world for saying something this stupid. My guess is they’re going for a Bonnie and Clyde angle, with a sprinkle of Adam and Eve. And so they’re making Caroline take more of the blame than she actually deserves. Believe me, I’m no fan of what Caroline did – just read my pinned tweet. But I think they should’ve focused on what she actually did wrong, instead of inventing fake things she did wrong!
