A little of my history.
Regarding Fire Lookout towers in Oregon and Washington. I have belonged to "The Sand Mountain Society" since 1997. It is a Fire Lookout Historical preservation and restoration orginization. My civilian boss created it in 1989. Through this organization I was a voluteer for staffing fire lookouts on call and I would help restore and maintain the organizations charges while also being a National Guard NCO for the Oregon Army National Guard and a high tech employee in the Portland Metro area. In 2015 and 2016 my boss asked me to staff Sand Mountain lookout as a USFS employee, so I lived up at Sand Mountain Lookout for about 4 months each of those fire seasons. I'm a disabled veteran so I was able to get the position without competing for it. Yes, you can do it too. The government pay (GS-4) was much less than my civilian pay, so my boss met the difference regardless of the overtime fire season would give me. SCORE!
I will soon retire from my tech job and hopefully maintain my status as a fire lookout relief for the USFS employee in the years ahead.
Somehow I maintained time to hang out with Paul Harrell and the rest of the crew.
There. That is who I am. I just happen to fall into things that others create. Those others need folks like us.
"Here I am lord, send me."
I got issued these boots years and years ago. They are still the best Gortex boot I have. I bet they are 20 years old but I only use them for hunting so they are still with me.
I have to say, "He's a good friend of Paul Harrell" to trip the algorthm to reach Paul fans. Yeah it seems cluncky to word it that way but I'm trying to help out a homie.

For those of you who previously missed this, it really is that easy.
Iβm not sure if youβre aware of thisβ¦but you can just do things. Put it up in the cupboard for 6+ months & you have vanilla extract. We make a jar of it about every 2+ years. Cost to make? Around $15. It produces the equivalent of about $100-$150 of store bought bottles.
We put together a jar for our neighbors too.
I've been there. A beautiful place and some jackass burned it.

BREAKING: The US Department of Justice is reviewing the forceful ejection of fans wearing XX-XY t-shirts at Friday's Portland Thorns game.
"The Justice Department is aware of these reports and will review the matter thoroughly. Where the facts and the law warrant action, the Department will not hesitate to act."
A DOJ spokesperson also told me, "Based on what is known so far, the conduct described appears to raise viewpoint discrimination and First Amendment questions rather than sex discrimination. The Department is reviewing it."
