Great news! Sounds like a low grade disc irritation that in someone SPJ’s age, should heal relatively quickly. As I said, around 70% spontaneously reduce in patients who are in their 20’s. He’ll need to ease back into return to play to avoid re-injury. I imagine the Grizzlies will take it slow.

The downgrade to a lumbar disc herniation is a bit concerning. The average time missed for a disc injury in the NBA is 2.8 to 6 months (if surgery is an option it’s closer to 6 months if not longer).
~86% of players return to full sport after a disc herniation and around 70% will spontaneously reduce without surgery.
I’ve had a disc herniation and the pain is no joke. I expect Pip is in a lot of pain and will be out for a lengthy period.
