This kind of open murder celebration already has the shape of a Dionysian thiasus, the band of frenzied followers.
In Euripides' Bacchae the cult is built around Dionysus, a foreign god of wine and frenzy who encourages his followers to abandon ordinary rules. Pentheus, the young king of Thebes, tries to suppress it because he sees it as a threat to civic order, the household and his own authority. In response Dionysus drives the women of the city (including Agave, Pentheus' own mother and her sisters) out of their houses and onto the mountain. Once they are inside the thiasus the normal prohibition simply stops applying. They tear Pentheus apart while treating him as prey rather than as the king or as Agave's son. The thiasus, the groupthink, itself is what licenses the violence.
Same structure here. The people around the performance treat it as normal or funny, so the usual restraint is already gone. The difference is that Bacchae ends with the women coming to their senses, recognizing what they did and being sent into exile. This version has still not reached that point.
911 AD was 9/11 for the Vikings.
When Rollo failed the Siege of Chartres, he was forced to swear fealty to the West Frankish king and convert to Christianity, paving the way for Normandy and the Normans, the very people who would later conquer England and remake Europe.
An interesting point about this moment is that, although there was no formal or informal pre-war agreement between Bulgaria and Greece on the division of Macedonia or Thessaloniki, both sides understood that whoever occupied the city first would create a powerful de facto claim, a fait accompli that would be very difficult to reverse in the eventual peace settlement. This is why both armies raced to reach and secure the city. The Greeks won by roughly half a day. The actual signing of the surrender protocol and the beginning of the handover/occupation took place in the early hours of 27 October, but the document was deliberately backdated to 26 October (St. Dimitrios' Day) both for symbolic reasons and to strengthen the Greek claim before the Bulgarians arrived.
Britain and France can do the funniest thing and tax the shipping to mainland Europe: choke the English Channel into a European Suez by filling it like the Dutch, charge 10x to cross, then mine the North Atlantic all the way to Greenland (gotta coerce Denmark & Iceland though)

I'd rather see Mass Effect and KOTOR erased from history with some form of damnatio memoriae than see them abominated further by the latest BioWare employees who killed the company to begin with.

The most impactful contributions to humanity from Algeria came during its Roman era.
Saint Augustine, Saint Monica, Apuleius, Fronto... and a region that served as the empire's agricultural breadbasket and a cultural powerhouse with majestic cities rivaling those in Italy and Asia Minor, some of the best preserved Roman sites anywhere. It even produced a Berber equestrian dude, Macrinus, who got himself hailed emperor between Caracalla and Elagabalus, got taken down within a year but still he was the first non-senatorial emperor in Roman history lmao.
Berbers yearn for the de-Arabisation and re-Latinisation.
