GNSS station CN20 250 km away from the M7.7 Panama earthquake today. Peak ground displacement of 15 cm
Several real-time GNSS stations in the Lesser Antilles recorded directed surface waves during the M7.5 earthquake in Venezuela yesterday. These sites are about 1000 km from the source but still recorded peak to peak motions of around 5 cm.
GNSS station P192 showed a SE offset (in line with focal mechanism) and decent dynamic motions on the east component for today's M5.6 earthquake outside of Redwood Valley, California.
Yesterdays M5.7 earthquake outside Silver Springs, Nevada was well resolved on GNSS sites nearby in real-time. Measurable offsets at P130, which was 11 km from the hypocenter.
We have an Assistant Professorship in AI for Geosciences open now at Ohio State. The search is broad across most areas of geophysics. Check out the ad below osu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/OS…
High-rate GNSS station MIZU in central Honshu, Japan, recorded the M8.7 Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia earthquake, 2500 km from the epicenter. A peak motion of over 7 cm is seen in the east component. @IGSorg

🎉 Congratulations to Professor Melisa Diaz on being named a 2025–2027 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar! 🌍
She's one of just 12 early-career researchers worldwide recognized for her bold, interdisciplinary work. 👏

Peak displacement of 20 cm recorded on @IGSorg GNSS station CUUT in Bangkok today from the devastating M7.7 earthquake near Mandalay, 1000 km from the source.
The surface wave from the M7.6 Cayman Islands earthquake was recorded well on GNSS station SSIA in El Salvador, 840 km away. Peak motion of almost 7 cm.

Upwards of 60 cm of peak motion recorded in Port Villa, Vanuatu during today's M7.3 earthquake. Subsidence of around 10 cm. Real-time GNSS solutions from CWU. @IGSorg
Excellent GNSS recordings in real-time for todays M7 earthquake offshore Petrolia. Peak displacement was just above 40 cm for P157. Solutions from CWU PANGA @EarthScope_sci

The M5.2 in Lamont, California this morning was recorded nicely on 5-Hz GNSS site WGPP, roughly 15 km SE of the epicenter. Shown are the velocity observations computed from time-differenced carrier phase observations. Peak ~ 15 cm/s @EarthScope_sci

West Coast residents can now benefit from satellite data in their earthquake early warning system.
@USGS_ShakeAlert is now leveraging GPS data, the USGS announced this week.

In light of the news adding GNSS to @USGS_ShakeAlert, I wanted to reshare the following video of the expected performance of GFAST for the Tohoku earthquake. If a similar event occurred in Cascadia, this gives you a sense of the performance youtu.be/ZHZpUpTJRu8?si=VvX3…

Today #ShakeAlert #EEW gets a boost! It's even more ready to take on the biggest quakes. It now includes Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) sensors that detect Earth-surface movement via satellite. GNSS includes the well-known US-based Global Positioning System (GPS).@USGS
A long journey to get here, its such an honor to see GFAST finally in production in @USGS_ShakeAlert
New blog post! The speed and accuracy of @USGS_ShakeAlert is always improving. Now #ShakeAlert is the world's first #EEW system to use geodetic data! PNSN created the GFAST algorithm to help ShakeAlert estimate the magnitudes of very big earthquakes. pnsn.org/blog/2024/06/05/new…🧵1/5
