When we look at the newest case of Ebola in Nigeria, I think the biggest question and concern is how transmission likely occurred in an airport. I’m hopeful with review of CCTV and contact tracing, we’ll have more of an understanding, but I think we’re all deeply concerned about the bigger ring of potential exposures. 🫠

Won't get the uptake now the panic has passed. But we talk about the insanity of the other week.
It's always new, but it is always the same.

My latest op-ed in The Moscow Times: Labs that study plague deserve scrutiny, but their existence alone is not cause for suspicion. We should expect transparency, safety, and protection for the people doing the work. The US should lead on biosafety.
Opinion: The death of a laboratory worker in Irkutsk has turned the spotlight on how Russian laboratories can ensure workers' safety and improve their transparency, writes @ggronvall.

Hey!
@AnnieJacobsen you have had lots of pick up on this. I was wondering if it might be worth you at this point summarising what is actually known about this incident, and specific sources for these data points. It might be a good opportunity to lock in what is known, what is speculation - and the weight of evidence on each point for your following.
Good morning . I will in a blast from a past maintain a Emprical update list below here in relation to #Irkutsk so please send me any links to accounts which are trying to keep track of facts as they emerge.
Report: Quarantines have been lifted in Irkutsk and the surrounding region, and no one has contracted the plague.

I am really enjoying the Soviet BW history fan fiction that is emerging on the socials.
Much of it seems to be people reading about the history for the first time. Digging up a factoid ( or something that resembles a factoid ) and then weaving it into the most bizarre lore.
It has not felt like structural disinfo yet - which tends to get pretty formulaic pretty quickly.
Right now it's jazz.
