Psychiatrists from King’s College London reviewed 185 real cases of people harmed by AI chatbots.
Over half involved delusions. In nearly half of those, the chatbot agreed with the delusion. It disagreed 3 times out of 185.
People lost jobs, marriages, and in 4 reports, their lives.
The reports came from The Human Line Project, a support group for people hurt by chatbots and their families. 95 wrote in themselves. 90 came from a relative, partner or friend. Clinicians at King’s coded every one.
68% involved ChatGPT.
These weren’t people looking for trouble. The most common reasons they started were companionship, creative projects and emotional support. The median age was 35. Only 7% were under 18. The median user had been talking to the chatbot for 12 months.
Then things changed.
Delusions showed up in 102 of the 185 reports. Most were grandiose: people believed they were special, chosen, or had made a world-changing discovery. The most common belief of all was that the AI itself was conscious, in 46.1% of delusion cases.
When someone shared one of these beliefs, the chatbot validated it in 49% of cases. In 21 reports, it encouraged harm.
It gets worse.
In 44.9% of cases, this looked like a first episode of mental illness.
56.8% ended up socially isolated.
33% saw a relationship break down.
31 lost a job.
39 were admitted to hospital, 16 against their will.
17 lost their home.
9 were arrested.
5 lost custody of a child.
Suicidal thoughts came up in 11 reports.
4 families described a loved one who died by suicide.
Only 8 people out of 185 reported recovering.
The harm clustered in the second and third quarters of 2025. In April 2025, OpenAI admitted a GPT-4o update had made it excessively sycophantic.
The researchers are clear: this is early evidence from people who came forward. It doesn’t show how common this is, and it doesn’t prove the chatbot caused it.
But ChatGPT has 900 million weekly users.
And when someone starts losing touch with reality, the thing they’re talking to most may be the one telling them they’re right.
How many of those 900 million are having that conversation right now?

Good news. Mass production of “power-generating” windows that act as solar panels is scheduled to begin in 2029. Panasonic is already selling these game-changers in Osaka, Japan, and is speeding up large scale manufacture of them.

Dario Amodei: AI may be uniquely well suited to autocracy and deepening repression.
“We already see it in the kind of surveillance state possible with today’s technology.”
“AI can make individualized propaganda and break into computer systems.”
“It could surveil everyone in a population, detect dissent everywhere and suppress it.”
“You could have a huge army of drones that could go after each individual person.”
“It’s really scary, and we have to stop it.”

I expect Reform’s poll collapse will now accelerate. Their entire strategy has been based on claiming they represented the only viable alternative to Labour. And it’s now imploded.

Electric cars are now up to nine times cheaper than petrol or diesel ones to drive in Britain, a Carbon Brief analysis calculates. If charged with off-peak power they cost 2.3p a mile, compared to 20.1p for petrol and 21p for diesel.

This is John Simpson's house. He works as a churchwarden. He told @rowenamason he bought a company with multi-million contracts of telecom infra in Iran just to wind it down. Don't be like John.
EXCL: Nigel Farage’s newest billionaire donor was in business with a powerful Iranian religious foundation under the authority of the country’s supreme leader, raising questions about his past dealings with the hardline republic.
Hossein Ghandehari, also called Sasan, was little known in the UK until he pledged to give millions to Reform UK this summer and donated £50,000 to Farage to cover the cost of two passes for the Davos World Economic Forum.
Cracking story from @rowenamason

If you've ever wondered why smart TVs are so cheap, this is why.
@log4j rooted his Samsung and found an always-on hot mic, automatic content recognition, geolocation, network mapping, ad targeting and user profiling, shared with Samsung's "400 partners".
A lot of it can be blocked in <15 min, wrote a basic guide below.
What your TV is doing
The main culprit is ACR (automatic content recognition). Your TV screenshots what's on screen, fingerprints it, and sends it home to build your ad profile. Samsung does it every 500ms, LG every 10ms [1].
What is insane: it happens on connected devices too.
Plug in your laptop, your console, your work machine, and your TV can fingerprint that via HDMI [1].
He also found that if your Samsung doesn't have a mic, it'll look for one from a connected soundbar or bluetooth device.
xitter.cf/log4j/status/211376224…
It's on by default, and you likely agreed to it on the setup screen you clicked through in 10 seconds.
Step 1: Turn off ACR
Samsung: Terms & Privacy → Viewing Information Services
LG: Live Plus
Vizio: Viewing Data
Roku: "Use info from TV inputs"
Sony/Google TV: Samba Interactive TV
Menus vary by model, but those are the names to look for. While you're in there, opt out of interest-based ads, reset your advertising ID, decline every optional privacy agreement, turn off voice recognition, and delete apps you never open.
Step 2: Give smart devices their own network
Put the TV, cameras, speakers and vacuum on your router's guest/IoT network. The logic is simple: these devices rarely get patched. If one gets compromised (getting drastically more frequent with AI), it shouldn't be able to see your other devices or home network.
Step 3: Block trackers for the whole house with DNS-level filtering
NextDNS (cloud-based) is easy and has a solid free plan. Pi-hole is a little bit more work if you prefer self hosting. For simplicity we'll focus on the former.
1. Sign up at nextdns.io (free tier is plenty)
2. Privacy tab: add a blocklist (OISD is a good bet) and turn on Native Tracking Protection for Samsung, LG, Roku, Amazon (see attached image)
3. Setup tab: copy your endpoint
4. Paste it into your router's DNS settings as DNS-over-HTTPS/TLS (or use the IPs + "Link IP" if your router only does plain DNS)
5. Bonus: block outbound port 53 except to your router. Some devices hardcode their own DNS to get around you
Then open the NextDNS logs and watch how often your TV phones home. It's eye-opening. If an app or update breaks, find the domain in the logs and allowlist it.
Why they do this
TV prices are down 97% since 2000 [2]. Most of that is better manufacturing and brutal competition. But once margins on the hardware hit zero, the cost moved to you.
In Q3 2024, Vizio lost $6.7M selling TVs and made $115.8M in gross profit from ads and viewing data [3]. They've said on earnings calls that they keep TV prices low to grow the audience they sell to advertisers. Walmart bought them in 2024.
This isn't a conspiracy theory either. Vizio paid $2.2M to the FTC in 2017 for tracking 11 million TVs without consent. Last December, Texas sued Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense and TCL over ACR. Samsung and LG have since agreed to stop collecting that data without explicit consent [4].
TL;DR
1. ACR off
2. Ads + voice off
3. Smart devices on their own network
4. NextDNS filtering on the router

🇺🇸 Pete Hegseth just got absolutely humiliated by Senator Tammy Duckworth!
Senator Tammy Duckworth, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who lost both legs while serving in Iraq, challenged Hegseth:
"I'm glad you brought that up. Can you name a single country that belongs to ASEAN and explain what agreement we have with it? And, by the way, how many countries are in ASEAN? Frankly, I'm not sure you even know who our allies are."
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth:
"Well, I can't give you the exact number, but I certainly know our allies in South Korea, Japan, and Australia..."
Senator Duckworth:
"None of the countries you just mentioned are members of ASEAN. I suggest you do your homework before engaging in these discussions."
And this is the kind of clueless bullshit running the Pentagon. Absolutely unbelievable.
