Design isn’t disappearing. It’s just getting harder to fake. The shiny layer is getting swallowed by automation. Good. That was never the real work. Design isn’t pixels. It’s clarity. Intent. It’s the thinking underneath the doing. Voice? No UI? AI agents? Still design. Still human. Still messy. Invisible doesn’t mean unintentional. Less interface = more risk. The fewer signals you give, the sharper your design thinking must be. Templates won’t save you. Prompting won’t save you. Only clarity will. Design isn’t dying. It’s maturing. It’s embedding itself deeper into the system. where only the thoughtful survive. Let them say design is over. We’ll be too busy doing the real work.

How I built an open-source home for ideas, projects, and context outside AI tools.

Recently, I released Cardeo OS, an open-source repository for capturing ideas, projects, and working context outside AI tools. My latest essay explains why I built it, how it grew out of Cardeo Root, and why I think owning your project context will become increasingly important. cardeo.substack.com/p/cardeo…

The Cardeo Archive is a living collection of more than 30 years of creative work from the Cardeo Creative studio. It includes finished projects across design, writing, software, music, photography, and visual experiments, but it also reveals something that portfolios rarely show: the small ideas, sketches, prototypes, and in-between moments that eventually become larger bodies of work. Rather than presenting only polished outcomes, the archive documents the process behind them. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas evolve over time, how patterns emerge across different mediums, and how seemingly unrelated projects often become connected when viewed together. The archive continues to grow in both directions, with historical work being uncovered and new work being added as it is created. cardeo.substack.com/p/the-ca…

We keep asking whether AI wrote it. I think we're asking the wrong question. cardeo.substack.com/p/who-wr…

As recursive AI systems become more capable, I think the more interesting question isn't what they can automate. It's who should guide the loop. cardeo.substack.com/p/the-hu…
