Congrats to the @OpenRoboticsOrg community on Kilted Kaiju — contributing to an even stronger open robotics ecosystem.
Get those proposals in! Roboticists are definitely not known for waiting until the last minute for any sort of abstracts/papers/proposals/demos, right?
Big ROSCon 2025 update!
ROSCon talk proposals are due in just four days!
We are also happy to announce our inaugural batch of ROSCon sponsors! Our OSRA members and ROS ecosystem partners help to make ROSCon possible.

I say this every time, but this has got to be one of the best release name and artwork combinations yet. @rosorg
It's our favorite time of year. In the lead up to the release (World Turtle Day on May 23), it is time to test out the beta of the new release. Thanks to all in the community who share in the lift!
🎉 We need your help beta testing our next release, ROS 2 Kilted Kaiju, before it drops on May 23rd.
🏅Our top 20 testers get free #ROS swag or an OSRA membership (you choose!).

Normally I post about robots but this weekend was 7 soccer games, getting the neighborhood pool in manageable shape, and a freshly mowed and edged yard. But the night is young...

A graduate research assistant just built a tool every roboticist using SolidWorks will want to bookmark:
This free, browser-based utility converts SolidWorks URDF exports into ROS 2 packages:
no installs, no hassle.
Built to save time for engineers and students working with ROS.
What it offers
✅ Upload your URDF and mesh files
✅ Convert instantly to ROS 2 format
✅ Download a ready-to-use zip
✅ No ROS or setup needed
Simple, useful, and built by someone who gets the struggle.
Try it out and share your thoughts.

The deadline for the ROSCon 2025 Diversity Scholarship application is this Friday, the 18th of April! If you haven't applied already, you should do it now. @OpenRoboticsOrg #roscon2025
New LLM use case: okay I'm looking at a sink with a delta faucet, what size Allen wrenches do I need to finish this project? Instantly returns a list and knows about common brand standards.
One thing I really appreciate about open source development is that sometimes we will get a new contributor from out of nowhere who drops a feature like this: discourse.ros.org/t/faster-r… Thanks to the client library working group for reviewing and getting it in. #ros2
Fantastic opportunity to travel to Singapore and connect with other roboticists building great things. Deadline is coming up relatively soon!
The ROSCon 2025 Diversity scholarship application is now open! The deadline is the 18th of April. Please repost or share with anyone you think who will qualify. #roscon2025 #robotics #Diversity

ALT A picture of a turtle and 4 robots around a world holding a rainbow flag standing for diversity and unity. The title says "ROSCon '25 Singapore Diversity Scholarship". "Our diversity scholarship program provides financial support to under represented groups who wish to attend ROSCon. Applications Due April 18th". A year ago today, we launched the Open Source Robotics Alliance (OSRA) and the response has been amazing!🎂
🎉In one short year we've added ~200 individual members, and recruited 48 companies to support our mission to make the future of robotics open!

Last day of spring break so we are going to start a fire, grill some stuff, read and make some HF contacts. The dogs are less impressed by the propagation conditions.
Excited to be the ROS project lead and help the world build more robots!
