Labour mkt stats today show UK workforce is smaller & sicker than 5 yrs ago.
Over 1m more people could be in work/progress out of low pay with more flexible work.
Employment legislation alone is not enough: we need more everyday conversations in the workplace to shift norms 👇

Our Adult Participation in Learning Survey has found that nearly 1 in 3 adults WANT to change career in the next one or two years.
And 13% NEED to change career.
It’s important that we enable all adults to find the right path for them. 🌟
Never done a panel discussion in a tipi before! Thanks @AnthropyUK for hosting two Age Irrelevance discussions, including this one on 50 year careers.
As an Age irrelevance ambassador, Charlotte Sweeney OBE found the session on the 50-year career very thought-provoking.
Brilliant debate including @DiverseAdvice @InspiredLifeUK @CIPD @cath_sermon @YF_Foundation

“Even when macroeconomy is at a point where using sticks to prod people is probably doing more harm than good, they are proving remarkably hard to put down.” Fab, quick read. Less punitive sanctions should go hand in hand with incentives for people incl over 50s to return to work
Germany has changed tack on the unemployed: more generous benefits, more training, less punitive. If you're more worried about skills/productivity/health, this makes sense. The UK meanwhile said last week that "sanctions will be applied more rigorously"... ft.com/content/dd4e0455-e3eb…
Thanks @cmi_managers for adding evidence on eternal conundrum - employers bemoan young people leaving education without employability skills & struggle to recruit, yet older workers face continued discrimination. We need age irrelevant society bbc.co.uk/news/business-6444…
Huge congratulations to everyone involved @Timewise_UK - it’s crazy that employers and managers are still, despite the evidence and demand, grappling with how to unlock the part-time jobs revolution #flexiblework

Brilliant engagement and great ideas from the public workshops on ‘future proofing the state pension for the 21st century’. Thank you @suzanne_khall and your amazing team.
Today @policyatkings ran a second deliberative workshop with @PhoenixGroupUK on how we can make the state pension fit for the 21st century. After a week where the future of the triple lock was again up for debate this was something people wanted to discuss!
The whole pathway approach should include employers as well as universities @csfoot @SchwitzerEd

Great suggestions that people on #UniversalCredit should be able to discuss training with a specialised group of 'career developer' work coaches. And also be exempt from conditionality if on a course - from @WorkFoundation @TrinleyWalker & @Oliviagable
With Government changes to #UniversalCredit, @TrinleyWalker & @Oliviagable ask a key question in @FEWeek:
How can Universal Credit support people that hold ambitions that reach beyond the immediate and available jobs they can get with their current experience and qualifications?
