I’ll start at the beginning: I grew up in a quintessential New England town in CT. My grandfather owned a printing company. As soon as I was exposed to computers I was hooked. I loved the paper, machinery, laser printers, wedding invitations, business cards…

Flexibility is not the goal of yoga. It's sometimes a side effect. Those are different things.

'Quick fix' and 'mindfulness practice' are kind of opposites, even when they're marketed identically.

Whenever someone tells me they're expecting their first baby and they're nervous, I tell them the following: 'Oh my goodness, that's wonderful. I am so happy for you. Listen, of course you're nervous but here's the deal: you're ready for all the bad stuff. You've been very tired before. You've been in pain before. You've been worried about money before. You've felt like an incapable moron before. So you'll be fine with the difficult parts! You're already a pro. What you're NOT ready for is the wonderful parts. NOTHING can prepare you for how amazing this will be. There is no practice for that. (via Rob Delaney, A Heart That Works)
you CANNOT understand how cute your kids will be to you. it is incomprehensible. I spend 50% of my free time looking at photos and videos of my children and just feeling really really really good. they are SO AMAZING. and so cute! 🤩

So good. Oh yes a million percent this: We may not be able to pinpoint the exact genesis of optimisation culture, but we are now convinced it has gone too far. Behind the rejection of optimisation is the realisation of having reached a point of diminishing returns.
THIS WAS THE SUMMER THAT OPTIMISATION DIED by Elle Jones In early June 2026, investor-influencer Stephen Bartlett lamented the loss of three days of his life. On an episode of his productivity podcast Diary of a CEO, he commiserated having drunk three glasses of wine. Though Bartlett “didn’t get drunk”, the binge “ruined three days of my life… I got worse sleep that night, I ate more poorly the next day because my dopamine system or the cortisol system or whatever was all messed up. Then I podcasted worse and I didn’t go to the gym the day after and I could track all of this on my Whoop [a fitness tracker designed to be worn 24/7] – hashtag ad, hashtag sponsor, investor… whatever [Bartlett is an investor in Whoop].” It was not an unusual statement for Bartlett, and such reflections have made his podcast among the most popular in the country, but something snapped in the public response. The backlash was immediate and furious. We should take a moment for “I podcasted worse,” but it wasn’t only that. It wasn’t even the flippant “hashtag sponsor, investor… whatever.” The public outcry stemmed from something deeper: a shift in our cultural way of life. I’m a retired brain surgeon and I wanna tell you why you feel like life is passing by. I just need one minute to explain this to you so hang in there. Repetitive daily routines stop the brain from recording clear detailed memories. When every day looks the same, your brain does not track time the same as a clock does. It tracks change. If nothing new happens then days, months, and years start to blur together. This is know as Time compression. When life lacks variety, your brain compresses past days together, making it feel like time is sped up. To stop feeling like life is passing you by, add new experiences to your life. Break routine habits, like changing your daily home routine, taking a different route to work, or trying a new hobby. Schedule small trips or plan new adventures so your days do not blend together. Practice mindfulness by staying fully focused on what you are doing right now and not trying to race off to the next task. Keep a journal and write down happy memories or memorable parts of the day before you go to sleep. Take deep, calm breaths when you feel anxious or rushed to return your focus to the moment. You can and you will retrain your brain to not feel like life is passing you by by following these few simple measures.

The meditation practice that saves you is the one you’ll actually do. Not the perfect one. Not the ‘proper’ one. The one that fits into your real life.

Interesting article. Not buying into arguments there is any real loss. Keep switching to NA. Keep quitting. Everything else will sort itself out. London pubs thrive and there are more and more NA options on every menu. AF life rules. share.google/WT61KmALbwGhRjC…
