SC soybeans not farm behind FC soybeans. It’s all weather with exception of areas a pinning. Much shorter, many pods that filled. Ugly but a better bean quality.
Soft Red Wheat seeded on 10-21 has already sprouted. I need to spray immediately.
Corn sprouts coming along nicely too, for now.
Corn farmers better be thankful for that USDA error. Without it, corn prices might have went sub $4. If you were able to hedge into this rally, this error put money in your pocket.
A BTO once told me he fell out of love with farming a long time ago. Said his happy place was sitting on a dozer in the middle of the night, with his phone silent and nobody needing anything from him.
I think about that conversation more often than I care to admit.
Whatever happened to the idea that grain funds were going to corner the market trading a super El Niño? Haven’t heard much about that one lately.
What’s is the yield story in western Minnesota?
Wheaton MN corn basis today -92. BN no bid on corn until January 2027
South Dakota corn yields are coming in better than expected. One large acreage operation averaged a record 170 bpa last year and was expecting 135 before walking fields. So far, they’re averaging 210 bpa. Soybeans, however, were disappointing at 35 bpa.
I’d buy enough electric fence to run cattle on volunteer corn if neighbors were kind enough to let me. Most fields across the belt would look about the same if this mild weather holds.

How every farmer in the country should seed $8 wheat this fall.
Ope. I leased mine out for grazing and forgot to buy fertilizer. Guess we’ll see how it yields.
