Roman Gabriel was the second overall selection in the 1962 NFL Draft out of #NCState by the #Rams, and was also chosen by the Raiders as the number one overall pick in the AFL Draft.
He would sign a three-year/$15,000 deal with the Rams, with a $5,000 signing bonus.
Oakland had initially offered Gabriel $12,500 for three years with a $2,500 bonus.
But the #Raiders' draft list was then turned over to AFL founder/Dallas Texans owner Lamar Hunt, who reportedly had planned to offer Gabriel $100K, something Gabe learned only after signing with the #NFL's Rams.
