23/24 Even in writing this, I noted the improvements since the Athletic took those pics a couple of weeks ago. Did Yale need a fire lit? Sure. Is the course in disarray? Not by any stretch. Is it Augusta with TV-ready holes or Montecito Club with fairways like lush carpets?

24/24 No, but it was never meant to be. It is a dramatic course roughly hewn from stalwart forest. I was delighted to play it and was not dismayed by the conditions. I am glad that so many people care enough to make an stink and it is that passion that will sustain this treasure

18/x #14 A cool hole (again - historically soggy, but seems to be draining nicely post-restoration). There's definitely a bit of damage on the front right (as we saw in the Athletic exhibits) but it seems to be a bit better than it was when the pic was taken.

22/x #18 The landing area was a bit tough here - the athletic got a grim pic here and I do agree that the second shot was kind of a grim spot, but I do think that the rest of the hole (and the green) looked great.

21/x #17 The fairway was great, but there was a bit of mower damage in the swale

20/x #16 Fairway was in good shape (even though I was in the left rough with my tee shot LOL). The green was in good shape (no pic as I left my phone in the cart in my hast to leave my birdie putt 12 feet short)

14/x #11 Was too busy eating my hot dog to take pics, but there was some damage from carts in the right rough that was in process of repair. The green was great

17/x #13 The Redan hole did have a few spots of dryness, but rolled pretty well. A fun golf hole with a diabolical pin placement today.

16/x #12 Was in good shape with maybe a touch of dryness on the fringe of this very large green. Note the cameo by Pat Sisk in the light blue.

11/x #7 I know a ton of work went into de-compacting the soil here and it shows. It was a mess in the spring and this fairway was great, as was the green

13/x #10 Looked pretty good. Again, a hole that historically had sogginess and was really dry. Good fairway with a touch of damage on the green that was already under repair

12/x #9. The green was actually in pretty good shape -- except for the spot I ended up. This was the one time that conditions affected me, although the rest of the green looked great

12/x #8 Eff this hole. I lost 3 balls and I don't want to talk about it. Some bunker p*rn to tide you over.
