Leaving #UNGA81 with a clear sense of purpose. Kidney health must be part of the global NCD and UHC agendas.
Now we turn dialogue into action: stronger country partnerships, integrated kidney care, and progress on prevention, early detection and access.
The work continues.
🌍 ISN at #UNGA81: Turning commitments into action for kidney health
What a week at the United Nations General Assembly! The ISN delegation, led by President @cellotonelli, brought kidney health into key conversations on NCDs, UHC and stronger health systems.
We kicked off with our ISN–@Devex event on integrated NCD care, bringing together leaders from health, development and financing to explore how kidney health can help strengthen health systems.
Throughout the week, ISN also joined the @NCDAlliance Multistakeholder Gathering and the World Stroke Organization’s “Reducing the Stroke Burden: Translating the WHA Resolution into Action” event.
Our delegation also met with @UN and government representatives from Djibouti, Algeria, Dominican Republic, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, strengthening dialogue on kidney health and opportunities for collaboration.
Across these conversations, one message was clear: kidney health must be part of integrated, sustainable approaches to NCDs and UHC.
Thank you to all our partners and colleagues for a week of meaningful dialogue and collaboration. 🌎

Is your country ready to act on kidney health?
Five questions every advocate should ask:
1⃣ Who is responsible for kidney health in the ministry of health?
2⃣ Is kidney disease included in national NCD, primary care, or UHC strategies?
3⃣ Are essential kidney tests and medicines available and affordable in primary care?
4⃣ Is there a national plan to improve early detection and referral for kidney disease?
5⃣ How is progress on kidney health being measured?

Kidney health doesn't need a separate system.
Countries can strengthen kidney health by embedding it within:
✓ Primary care
✓ NCD strategies
✓ Universal health coverage
Rather than creating separate programs.
Implementation becomes easier, more sustainable, and more equitable when kidney health is integrated into existing health systems.

The WHO kidney health resolution was a historic milestone. Now comes the hard part: implementation
These resources outline how countries can translate commitments into action to improve kidney disease prevention, diagnosis, and care worldwide
Resolutions alone do not save lives
From global commitments to national action.
The @WHO kidney health resolution created an unprecedented opportunity for action.
The question is no longer why kidney health matters. It's how countries can act.
A new @TheLancet Health Policy paper outlines a practical pathway for implementation—offering governments and stakeholders a framework to strengthen kidney health within primary care, NCD strategies, and universal health coverage.
To support advocacy and policy dialogue, ISN has translated the framework into a concise one-page resource that can be used in meetings with policymakers and health system leaders.
