We don’t want financial donations, we don’t want alternative funding streams, we don’t want charity and we don’t want volunteers doing work that should be done by Library Workers. Libraries are a statutory service and should be properly funded. #savelibraries

It's a really unfortunate coincidence for Keir Starmer this keeps happening, isn't it? In the Batley and Spen by-election, Labour officials brief that Muslim voters are disillusioned with the party because of homophobia and antisemitism. Muslim councillors resign over Gaza, his stooges boast Labour is "shaking off the fleas". White allies make antisemitic comments, no action, while Diane Abbott is publicly humiliated. Kate Osamor, one of the only other Black female MPs, is suspended because she described Israel's genocide as a "genocide". Black Labour MPs brief Channel 4 News that they're too scared to talk about anti-Black racism in Labour because the leadership might purge them. Labour hires Martin Forde QC, one of the country's most senior Black barristers, to do a report which uncovers a hierarchy of racism. They fail to adequately respond to his recommendations, then when he speaks out, send him a menacing letter ordering him to be quiet. Faiza Shaheen, a hugely talented Muslim woman of colour who became a celebrated academic, is purged as a candidate for her home constituency, publicly humiliated in the Murdoch press, with Labour citing her criticising Islamophobia in the party as one of the reasons for purging her. Apsana Begum, another Muslim Labour MP, is abandoned by the party leadership after suffering domestic violence and pursued for nakedly factional reasons. We could go on, but - for some reason?! - Keir Starmer has the worst personal ratings of any Labour leader of the opposition amongst minority Britons since those records began in 1996. He went into this election with ratings more than 50 points lower among minority Britons than Tony Blair on the eve of the other Labour landslide in 1997. And now they treat a charismatic Black candidate making waves taking on the racist Right in the UK. This record is awful. Absolutely awful. And our institutionally racist media has ignored it. Well, let's see how this all goes when they're actually in power, shall we.
This is insane. Absolutely insane. "Jovan was told [by an official] to never come back to Clacton, and yesterday, was instructed to move to the West Midlands region." Labour ordered its Clacton candidate go into exile because he was making Starmer's team jealous.

This is so insulting if you think about it, the notion that younger generations can only be disgusted by the mass murder of women and children if they're being somehow brainwashed into it... Also says a lot about the moral collapse of those making these types of accusations...

The biggest problem is not Western journalists being unable to enter, but the fact that Western media doesn't respect and value Palestinian journalists. My colleagues and I risk our lives every day to report on this genocide . No one knows Gaza like we do, and no one understands the complexity of the situation like we do. If you care about what's happening in Gaza, you should amplify Palestinian voices. We don't need Western journalists to tell our stories; we are capable of telling and reporting on our own stories.
"Our major problem covering Israel-Gaza right now... is that we can't get there." @amanpour

Regarding Israel's attack on Al Shifa hospital, this also needs to be said: Western colonialism is always based on imagined superiority in all things: morality, beauty, intellect, etc. To demonstrate said superiority (which is really a collective mental illness), a colonizer must always have things the colonized does not. Especially things that signify a capability for independence, like roads, hospitals, and schools. Any communal success at addressing any challenge must be dismantled and shredded. Simply put, natives must not be allowed to have their own functioning systems, as their existence negates the colonizer's claim to superiority (which colonizers need as a moral justification for their violence as well). Insofar as those systems exist, they need to be destroyed, and the colonized natives must become fully dependent on the colonizer's benevolence and higher intellect, i.e. the ability to plan complex systems. When a colonizer destroys the native's institutions and systems, reality is violently made to reflect supremacist stereotypes. Vindictiveness, hate, and ethnic cleansing are all part of it, but also, the rage colonizers feel when confronted with native success at mitigating communal challenges. Al Shifa (as did Gaza's many universities and schools), stood as a symbol of native initiative, intellect, and success. It made a mockery of Israel's claim to be the sole intelligent, orderly civilizational presence in the region. As such, they just had to be brought down.

Today an 88-year lease on 47 Station Street, Birmingham comes to an end. It’s a chance to reflect on the remarkable life of this resilient little picture house behind New St Station, arguably the oldest cinema in the UK. What might its next chapter might look like? 1/21
