being a self-aware person doesn't mean i view myself as a good person. i think a lot of people get that confused. it literally means that i am vigilant of both my light and dark side. i have also made peace with my flaws even though i'm always working through them

In addition to being a legendary artist, Dolly Parton took pride in understanding the music business. When Elvis's manager asked for 50 percent of the publishing to record a cover of "I Will Always Love You," she told them no. Know your worth. RIP, Queen.

Too many adults throw temper tantrums instead of taking accountability that they’re the problem.

neurodivergent people don’t recover by sleeping. they recover by being completely alone long enough for their nervous system to finally reset.

Your identity is just a collection of habits. Habits of thought. Habits of emotion. Habits of action. None of them are permanent. None of them are you. They are just patterns you've repeated. And patterns can be broken. Identity can be rebuilt.

maybe you are not becoming cold. maybe you are finally noticing how many of your relationships depended on you being endlessly available, agreeable, and easy to access.

Maybe one of the best things a person can grant us is the permission to be completely ourselves 🕊️

I miss when MTV, VH1, and BET gave us music documentaries and making-of specials. We got to see the entire creative process, from the writing sessions and studio recordings to rehearsals, music videos, and tours.

When you are a person that doesn't argue, you realize how much that really upsets people who live that way. Pray for them.

I prefer talking to people who can read energy so I don’t have to say as much. The type of people who can keep up.

You cannot be friends with someone who is not in the same wavelength, mindset, or lifestyle as you. Friendship needs alignment. People who have not attained a certain level of self-awareness or discipline will often become uncomfortable in the presence of someone who has. No matter how much grace, compassion, or patience you extend to such people, they will eventually feel threatened by the parts of you that remind them of what they have not become. Instead of being inspired, they become confronted by their own shortcomings. And when that happens, two things often occur: They will try to pull you down to their level to justify their inadequacies, or slowly buildup envy and resentment towards you. This is why outgrowing people is sometimes necessary; not out of pride, but out of self-preservation.

the potential you see in other people isn’t real. it is a projection of what you would do in their position.

my mom once told me “accountability will always feel like an attack when you are not ready to acknowledge how your behavior harms others” and that shit is real.

I’ve been training myself not to prioritize something for someone that they don’t prioritize for themselves. If you don’t care, then neither do I. If you think something else is more important, then I agree.
