Victim blaming starts young. It starts with dress codes. It starts in schools. It starts with telling girls that their bodies are sexual or provocative or distracting. If you have a story of school harassment, you can share it via DM, or through the link in bio. #nomeansno

Street harassment is violence - make no mistake about it. It curbs women's freedoms, it makes us live smaller lives with less opportunity & means that we never feel safe. WID SC member @LinaAbiRafeh in this powerful @chalkbackorg video on how street harassment affects women⬇️

Helpline numbers for women to reach to ask for help. Include more women in policy decisions , have more women lawmakers. People vote for those leaders who stand for Women safety. Start educating kids in schools - what ‘Consent’ is - A ‘NO’ means ‘NO’!! #SayftyChat

The District of Columbia and the state of New York have made some efforts to address harassment. The Street Harassment Prevention Act (SHPA) in DC established a community-based Advisory Committee to study street harassment and develop model policies and trainings. #sayftychat

Bystander intervention is so important. We often think what can one person do. But it makes a difference in changing thought processes and knowing that no one is alone. #SayftyChat #endSH

Street harassment happens because men (generally) know they can get away with it. It's a violation of consent & a symptom of patriarchy which perpetuates men as superior. It takes away women’s freedom in public spaces &they make decisions out of fear. #sayftychat #endSH (1/2)

Love the mention of design. Design should be inclusive. It should be a space for EVERYONE. Not only to use, but to also feel safe and secure in. #SayftyChat #endSH

At Safetipin, we believe in the POWER OF DESIGN! If we design well-lit, walkable, accessible & people friendly streets, more people will feel comfortable and use them. If we design spaces for sitting, playing and walking, we are creating inclusive spaces. #endSH #sayftychat (1/3)

Street harassment is the way men with hostile masculinity finds power over Women. Men get angry when women say no to their advances - how dare a woman or a girl rejects them. This leads to street harassment and GBV. #SayftyChat

A3 Power dynamics play a huge role in street harassment. Those who hold power in society, such as men or those in positions of authority, may feel entitled to assert their dominance through harassment. #endSH #sayftychat
