Live in WA state and noticed the WACares payroll deduction? This is the long-term care program it's paying for that we'll all benefit from. By all measures an imperfect program, but an example of how iteratively improving public policy is possible. washingtonstatestandard.com/…
The House bill just passed introduces Medicaid work requirements that will leave 7.6 mil more patients uninsured (most of whom work), adds copays to Medicaid, and cuts ACA Marketplace subsidies. It taxes the poor to cut taxes on the rich. This is wrong. nytimes.com/2025/05/22/upsho…
WA's governor just signed the 2025-2027 state budget, overcoming a big shortfall to maintain health $. State & local public policy matter to our patients! Hopefully a special legislative session isn't needed later this year (if Congress cuts Medicaid $). washingtonstatestandard.com/…

Dr @AjthorsenL shares her wisdom on when to do / not do a ventral mesh rectopexy at @MNCRSurgery Annual Course. Be selective who to offer to, esp early in your practice, and a lot of lessons to be learned from the urogyn prolapse literature! – at Minneapolis, MN

As an Asian American, I’ve struggled w the issues behind today’s Supreme Court decision banning race-based affirmative action. I’m disappointed by the decision. It amounts to an assessment that racism no longer needs to be systematically addressed in society, which isn’t true.
Lastly, as Justices Sotomayor and Jackson point out, the majority arbitrarily allowed for race-based admissions at military academies — a carveout that concedes the importance of diversity, but “in the barracks, not the boardroom.”
