A meaningful moment for crypto art, and one I’m proud to be part of. THE VAULT was chosen by the 6529 community as the artwork for Meme Card #550, helping bring the Squiggle #6529 acquisition into the story of the 6529 Network Museum. I’ve been exploring Chromie Squiggles through photography and light painting for some years around here. It means a lot to see this work become part of a collective effort to preserve crypto art history. Thank you @punk6529, @aRegularDad, @HugoFaz, @Cheesebiz, @Bankons, @MadaCollects, @SquiggleDAO, and everyone who participated and helped bring this together.
1/ On Squiggle #6529 I would like to explain why we are excited about “buying a Squiggle” While Squiggles are, in fact, sweet, the exciting part is that every part of this process happened in a decentralized manner. 2/ @aRegularDad proposed a Meme Card to fund a Squiggle acquisition. 81 profiles participated in the Main Stage vote and voted with TDH to mint this as a Meme Card The card won. 77 paid editions were minted, providing 2.51 ETH for the acquisition. 3/ @cheesebiz and @bankons helped scout and connected @squiggleDAO . SquiggleDAO suggested trying to acquire Squiggle 6529 The price was 3.01 ETH, so @MadaCollects who had been following the discussion, chipped in another 0.5 ETH to the pool (respect!) 4/ The seller wanted to stay anonymous, preserve the provenance (no intermediary transfers) and keep their vault secure. Ultimately, the seller trusted SquiggleDAO and 6529 network and sent the Squiggle directly to the 6529 Network Museum before receiving payment. 5/ Reminder: What is the 6529 network museum? It is a SAFE vault organized by TDH, owned by the network, a cultural asset, NFTs go in, but ~they do not go out. It is the network-native concept of a national public museum 6/ Finally, one more step to replace the temporary art on the card with something appropriate for the long-term. Well, another TDH vote of course. @ricardotakamura won with THE VAULT, a long-exposure light painting made at Casa NUA in Brazil. 7/ So to recap: - Decentralized network mints a meme card to buy a squiggle - Decentralized network picks which squiggle to buy - Decentralized network updates the art - Decentralized network permanent home for the squiggle 8/ What was my contribution to any step of this project? Nothing at all. I was not involved at all in any way. I had a vague awareness that it was happening, but was not following any of the details, let alone helping. 9/ Now, some of you are thinking “ok, fine, that is cute, the NFT nerds are collecting NFTs again” Maybe. Or maybe collecting NFTs is a generalizable proof of concept, and there is no actual limit to this primitive. We will see soon enough. 10/ Thank you to all who organized, the voters and everyone who minted. Great job by all.

It's an exciting day for the 6529 Network Museum which acquired Squiggle #6529 by @ArtOnBlockchain for 3.01 ETH from Anon. This purchase was made possible by the people who minted Meme #550, @MadaCollects who contributed 0.5 ETH, and @squiggleDAO who facilitated the sale with the anon owner.

I have collected over 5000 nfts so i decided to create a thread of posts to share one everyday. Starting with this one that i minted almost 6 years ago. ------- From my collection - 001 Chromie Squiggle #444 by @ArtOnBlockchain , aka Erick Calderon. Released in 2020, Chromie Squiggle was the first Art Blocks project. A simple line of colour, generated through code and a starting point for exploring generative art.

There is a @punk6529 meme card submission where the funds will be used to acquire squiggles for the @6529Museum museum, if any squiggle holders want to put some TDH behind it: 6529.io/waves/b6128077-ea78-… The DAO will be voting and proposing Squiggles for purchase! CC @cheesebiz

but they cannot take my jpegs xitter.cf/amelia_tweetz/status/2…
They took memory cards from us and made us pay for storage. They took CDs and DVDs and made us pay for streaming. They took software you could buy once and turned it into a monthly subscription. They took ownership, convenience, and basically everything that used to be a one-time purchase… then somehow made us pay for it every month.

ppl see my phone screen and say to me “woah, is your phone screen busted?!” and i’m like nah man, this is a @batzdu. you’re looking at modern memeism in its purest form. the sacred intersection of high art and the eternal frog. geometric decay. pure signal in the noise. this isn’t damage. this is intentional digital entropy. this is the meme achieving self-awareness through glitch. the frog doesn’t just exist, it replicates. it mutates. it selects. every new iteration is a genetic remix of the last. memetic DNA. cultural natural selection. batz is out here treating Pepe like Mondrian treated rectangles and people still think the screen is just broken.

We would add generative art and of course Squiggles. Everyone is focused on the floor, but that's only part of the story. We speak to Museums constantly every month and the interest for this new medium of art is unprecedented. What's happening in the background is arguably more important: institutional adoption, museum acquisitions, physical applications, and a growing base of long-term collectors. On-chain generative art isn't following the same timeline as traditional art. It's compressing decades of cultural adoption into just a few years. Squiggles are less than 6 years old, yet they're already held by 12 museums worldwide, including MoMA and LACMA, and continue to onboard 100s of new collectors at a pace that's virtually unheard of in the traditional art world. If this trajectory continues, the market may be dramatically underpricing where on-chain generative art can be a decade from now. The adoption curve is the thesis.
This reinforces my belief that the window for making generational money on crypto is over. What we've seen in the last 5 years is that 99% of the presumed use cases of crypto are proven false. NFT, metaverse, dePIN, socialfi, gamefi, DAOs, all dead. ENS and POAP are the two projects that I used to think make the most sense: they leverage the unique capability of blockchain that is provable ownership. Now they are dead too. The only two use cases of crypto that survived are gambling (perps, memecoins, prediction markets) and stablecoin payment. For both of these, big Wall St. institutions have moved in, leaving little room for startups.
