Aretha Franklin’s performance at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors is widely regarded as one of the best moments in the history of the event.
The occasion was to honor Carole King, the legendary songwriter and one of the co-writers of Aretha’s iconic hit “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
Draped in a floor-length fur coat, Aretha took the stage and began with a subtle piano introduction, which immediately drew the audience into her world.
Her powerful voice and commanding presence filled the room, visibly moving everyone in attendance. Carole King, seated in the audience, was overwhelmed with emotion, cheering and holding her hands to her face in disbelief.
This unforgettable performance not only celebrated Carole King's compositions, but also reaffirmed Aretha Franklin's unparalleled ability to continue performing at 100% at age 73.
Aretha Franklin is one of the greatest female musicians of all time.

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog and I will become as generous and loving as they are”. - Diane Keaton ❤️

"The original #NoKings protest was 250 years ago. We've had democracy since then. Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it away—King Donald the First. Fuck that. We're rising up again, this time nonviolently, raising our voices to declare: 'No Kings.' Stand up and be counted in the nationwide No Kings protest on October 18."

A big part of why Boomers look at things differently:.
1. Many of our grandparents had to flee the “old country” and told us why
2. Our parents had to fight in WW2 and the Korean War We heard the horrors of war
3. Our siblings and friends got drafted and sent to Vietnam. Many did not come back
4. We lived the Cold War and did duck and cover drills and were told the Russians were going to drop nukes on us
5. We saw Civil Rights marches and riots and death. We grew up with racism, anti-semitism and xenophobia all around us
6. We saw King and the Kennedys shot and killed.
7. We saw demonstrations against Vietnam, sit-ins, blocks detonated , kids shot at college and beaten at political conventions.
8. Resignation of a President etc
All before we got out of high school
The Boomers path was not any better or worse. But it was painted by experiences of our families and world that were shared among all of us
We grew up pre-technology. Each successive generation saw technology make each of our experiences a little bit more individualized. Today, we all have our own algorithm feeding us what monetizes us the best.
Of course our perceptions will be different from kids today.
That’s why this country truly needs leaders who want to bring us together as a country. Not for a political party. Not for personal benefit. Not for personal power.
Because they truly care for this country and everyone who lives here.
Our President is the one thing we all have in common.
