Back to back, today’s host just mispronounced Olamide “Olowe”
I don’t take Nigerians seriously when they say this. I live in this nation and god knows they refuse to say people’s names. They insist on calling me Chinasa because “what’s the difference”. At GTCO, Sherlina Nym said her name 50+ and everyone said “No, Shalewa better”

I do not have a white parent. I am Nigerian. Attributing my success to proximity to whiteness is WILD AF. My father, mother and grandmother were all designers in Nigeria. Creativity is in my blood. I came to London with zero connections in the fashion industry. The lack of Black women in creative director positions has always perplexed me, but I’ve never allowed that to dictate my own possibilities. I just do what I want.

She sent this to my email, I feel special
📧 Lorde's birthday email. Subject: Thirty "I'm typing this in Manhattan at the end of my twenties… I'm just writing down a few thoughts about this decade while I'm still inside it, before I'm someone else…"

I truly don’t understand the disdain Nigerians have for Tyla and I know it’s not the SA of it all. Between the time Nigerians threatened to rape her if she toured here and now we’ve had SAs welcomed and celebrated in several industries. Unlike them, Tyla has always had our back
Ty being the one SA artist who actually loves Lagos too. Also the only one with a mind to call out her people. She spoke up when Chidinma’s issue was hot on its tail and she was dragged by her people for it. But y’all hid behind patriotism to bully her, we will all be here.

If you’re a teenager with a charm, they take you out to the back and shoot you. Don’t let anyone gaslight you, see how they are dragging North West over blue hair and fake piercings. Every kid in fashion school has a nightmare story of being ostracized for dressing different

I stress this whenever people try to say “Tchaikovsky” why can’t they say “Babatunde”. I’ve literally never heard an English speaker pronounce “Dior” correctly, I know damn right that they not saying Tchaikovsky well. Oddly, it’s seen as pretentious for them to insist upon it

I literally bonded with a kid as a kid because I was the only one who pronounced her name right and I had to explain to her how impossible it is to get adults to say “Chinazam” too. Everyone would tell me I’m saying my name wrong.(I was 8 at said time)

We barely have women, let’s stay focused on the goal. The division can start later. I have an article on the real issue: marieclaire.ng/why-is-womens…
has a full black woman ever been creative director of the top fashion houses (?)

When Temi Otedola hired Miss Sohee to make her a custom wedding dress, a few Nigerians expressed that “the Asians are studying us”. However, I would like to express the feeling might be reciprocated because since Miss Sohee x Temi, there’s be a rise in the tulip silhouette here
