This is also exacerbated by the rapid decline in drafting thanks to new style and guidelines claming to be clearer but without the precision or clarity of older legislation, IMO. (Seen notably in the Wills Act replacement proposals from the law commission)

This is an attack on the constitutional order. Parliament has set by Act the qualifications for Members of Parliament, including criminal disqualifications. These can only be changed by another Act.
EXCL: MPs and parliamentary staff could be required to take a criminal record check before being given a security pass, and receive anti-harassment training under a pioneering scheme to root out violence against women @peterwalker99 reports.

The pretty mundane end of this otherwise quite fun piece of legislation is almost a reason on its own to leave the EU.
Why would keeping an obscure law about fake seances on the books have in any way imperilled the single market?
- Attempts to establish Protestant Reformed Church by law
- Doesn't write good enough law
Skill issue.

What place has this popery in the assembly in the Protestant Reformed Church as by law established?
This is what we have the Honours List for.

An incredible aspect of the ILR debate is the sheer number of Sensibles who've persuaded themselves that amending the rules governing how & whether foreigners are allowed to settle permanently in Britain is some kind of monstrous blow against a sacred ancient moral order.
This is the exact message they *could* use to explain why it is "retroactive"
"From today, all ILR must ne properly earned"
Except let us get a few hundred thousand through first, then apply the rule to some Aussie backpackers.
Under the Earned Settlement model set out before Parliament today, the right to live in the UK permanently will no longer be granted automatically after five years.
Instead, it will be earned.
Under the reforms:
➡️The standard route to settlement will double from five to 10 years
➡️ People who enter illegally, including by small boat, face a wait of up to 30 years to settle
➡️ Care workers who meet the visa requirements will retain a five-year route
➡️ Higher earners on more than £50,000, skilled public service workers and refugees arriving on safe and legal routes will be able to settle in five years
➡️ Migrants who claim benefits face a 20-year wait for settlement
➡️ Migrants with a criminal record will be prevented from settling in the UK
➡️ Migrants will be required to meet A-level standard English to settle in the UK

Restrict movement with our very dearest family, but reopen it with a European Union that is granting amnesty citizenship to the hordes who broke into Spain. Make it make sense….

Proposals include removing an exemption that means Brits don’t have to do rural work to extend their visa as well as the introduction of a migration cap

Western governments love to implement "We'll be tough on immigration" in the most intentionally perverse way and then act shocked when it pleases literally nobody.
Increasingly hard to have a theory of mind for this beyond pure malice or stupidity.

This is my big fear about space colonisation.
There are going to be some people worried about us "colonising" Mars.
We need to ignore them with prejudice.

No, Capitalism Unchecked gave us 1930s 3 bed semis with bay windows and a garage. Modern houses are massively supply-constrained due to regulation. This is the least "Capitalism" problem imaginable
Anyway, a nice chance to remember that Australia and Mew Zealand were extremely kind to us in '82 (more, arguably, than we deserve) and no doubt the sun is bound to make a few of their inhabitants a little eccentric.
A useful reminder that we should seek to be sufficiently powerful so that diplomatic relations are not always more important than our citizens, and that we should actively have contempt for many countries *justice" systems.
