1/12 Introducing Music Lenses! Something cool you can do with our recent sparse-inversion work is prompt a dense music space for concept-conditional similarity. You want similar vocal character, rather than just similar songs? Well, now you can! pliploop.github.io/sparse-st… 🧵
Happy to share our #ISMIR2026 paper on steerable music retrieval with sparse autoencoders 🎛️🎧 Dense retrieval is great at finding similar tracks, But once you have a query, what if you want to modify one concept inside it? More piano, More intimate, Less gritty. 1/n

Expect massive innovation now that anyone can build apps for the S-band! This 2-4 GHz radio frequency sweet spot cuts through bad weather easily, making it perfect for tracking storms, keeping airport radars accurate, and beaming data to space missions.
S-band phased array project, the first rudimentary test, aimed at a signal source several meters away. By adjusting the beam, the variation in the RX field strength was observed, which almost conformed to the -3db 25-degree beam width rule. The beam was formed.😁

my current favorite learning mode: a book/paper pdf open in claude desktop’s browser pane, where i highlight passages and ask questions straight with claude. alongside it, an implementation of the idea im reading about so i can play with it. immediacy in both ideas + intuition.

"Our initial evaluation suggested that GPT-6-Astra's score was in the late eighties followed closely by Opus 5.5. But, as we started to investigate the mistakes that the models might have made, the models, especially Astra, insisted that they were right and that it was the expert-supplied answers that were erroneous. When we went back to the experts it turned out, in multiple instances, that that the experts found some subtle errors buried deep inside their calculations. As they revised their answers, Astra's score started to inch up and it finally ended up with 98% (49/50)."

i asked LLMs to have fun, write down what happened, then rate who had the most fun. the newer models seem to have less fun! many models played word games, but opus 4.6 won over and over by imagining brief worlds made up of contradictions living inside falling water droplets 🥺

Echo is post-trained from Kimi K3. Training Echo was so cheap because the underlying base model already has a deep understanding of writing style. All that we needed was to elicit this understanding—taking the model out of the “assistant basin”—while preserving its other capabilities.

asked claude opus 5.5 to make a film about intelligence arising from text sequences stupefying that this is all code. what a model (warning: flashing lights)

"stochastic parrot" was a mimetically-fit cognitive virus that spread from 2021-2025; it temporarily blinded many gifted people to the nature of AI progress, burning up crucial years in which they could have helped think through the response to the situation.

This is the kind of "AI Magic" I love. Not through delegation and instruction, but through direct interaction with intelligent and dynamic materials.
Real-time video models are unlocking new capabilities. A first experiment: a drawing app that animates your sketches as you draw. Under the hood, a video model generates each frame live, turning every idea into motion instantly.

Hypothesis testing is making a huge comeback thanks to coding agents writing papers now. It's everywhere in most submissions I review, including the abstract. Also, I am learning about new hypothesis tests that were never used before in our community (NLP). I don't know what to make of it -- good i guess?

It always astonishes me how fearless @deepseek_ai are when compared with other labs. *Every single* model release is packed with novel crazy clever ideas, and each is fully commited to with near frontier scale training.
🚀 Introducing DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash: smarter, faster, more efficient. 🔹 Introducing the smallest model in our new architecture family, with native visual understanding. 🔹 Designed for greater capability, faster inference, higher throughput, and scaling to larger models. 1/6

GPT3 writing code. A compiler from natural language to code. People don't understand — this will change absolutely everything. We're decoupling human horsepower from code production. The intellectual equivalent of the discovery of the engine. player.vimeo.com/video/42681…

i gave astra a robot, a paint brush, and a camera then asked it to paint the golden gate bridge in real life! it figured out how to control the robot, and progressively got better throughout its attempts. the timelapse is sick
This is GPT-6 Astra. Anything you can do on a computer, Astra can do for you. Fast.

NewtonScript never really needed the Newton. So I pulled it out. Reimplemented in Zig as a small portable language/runtime for embedded systems and Physical AI. ESP32, RISC-V, WASM. 64 kiB VM. As agentic as it gets. An agent and its screen representation on an ESP32-C6. ... and yes, the chlorophyll measurements get sent via Zigbee. The code readability is excellent.
