The big problem with AI, who is going to pay trillions for this stuff? deanbaker22.substack.com/p/t…

In fact, what were called the socialist countries were the most anti-socialist systems in the world. Workers had more rights in the United States and England than they had in Russia, and it was somehow still called socialism. (1/1)

The Leninist antagonism to the most essential features of socialism was evident from the very start. In revolutionary Russia, Soviets and factory committees developed as instruments of struggle and liberation, with many flaws, but with a rich potential. (1/3)

Before seizing State power, the Bolshevik leadership adopted much of the rhetoric of people who were engaged in the revolutionary struggle from below, but their true commitments were quite different. This was evident before & became crystal clear as they assumed State power (3/3)

The terminology of political and social discourse is vague and imprecise, and constantly debased...Still, these terms have at least some residue of meaning. Since its origins, socialism has meant the liberation of working people from exploitation. (1/2)

As the Marxist theoretician Anton Pannekoek observed, “this goal is not reached and cannot be reached by a new directing and governing class substituting itself for the bourgeoisie,” but can only be “realized by the workers themselves being master over production.” (2/2)

Same war criminal and financial elite lapdog who bailed out the banks instead of the people—exactly when he had massive control in deciding who would suffer from the Great Financial Crisis.
Obama: A president doesn't have control over the entire economy. But that is not the case here. In this case, this administration's actions are directly responsible for rising costs.

The long piece bemoans the "the shock and horror of the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7, 2023" but makes no mention of Israel's genocide in Gaza (only "military operations" and "buffer zones"), although the author had 4000+ words of room to say it.
Just to be clear, the "Roman frontiers" analogy made in the piece is about genocidal Israel's "doctrine of constant warfare" against "the barbarian tribes" so as to "ensure peace" which has "alienated many otherwise sympathetic Americans."

"Potentially, the most dangerous scenario would be a grand coalition of China, Russia, and perhaps Iran, an "antihegemonic" coalition united not by ideology but by complementary grievances....though this time China would likely be the leader and Russia the follower" ~Brzezinski

What "darkest periods in the history of our continent" is he referring to? 🤔🤔
Germany’s Chancellor Merz on Russia: We are facing a massive threat in the east of our continent. We see Russia trying to destabilize Germany every single day. I do not want a return to the darkest periods in the history of our continent.

At least they included in the same piece a chart of who gives orders to whom (they refused to use the word 'class' though). Billionaires were on top as expected. Teachers, writers, and artists are considered so insignificant, they didn't even get their own category.
Dear god, yeah so the New Deal was a social contract because it was institutionalized through Social Security and Medicare and paid for collectively. “I give you dimes when I feel like it” is not a social contract, you degraded bootlicking toadies

"Trump is putting $1,000 in kids’ accounts while he is cutting back on Medicaid, food stamps, housing assistance, and other programs that benefit the poor." ~Dean Baker.
NYT badly misleads readers on Trump accounts. They are a FAR bigger scam than the paper implies deanbaker22.substack.com/p/n…

"This means that we can be absolutely certain that in a few years we will have hundreds of thousands of hungry and homeless three-year-olds who have $1,000 sitting in a Trump account that their parents can’t touch. That’s pretty damn MAGA!" ~Dean Baker.

The argument that billionaires paying the wealth tax will drain liquidity is too stupid even for American political debates substack.com/@deanbaker2/p-2…
So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?

Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq
